When the Seattle Sounders lost James Riley in the expansion draft there was some real concern about how Seattle would fill the void let by the dependable veteran's departure.

The Sounders have reached an agreement with Swedish right back Adam Johansson, according to the club website of Johannson's current club, IFK Goteborg. Seattle has yet to confirm the acquisition.

Johannson, 27, has earned nine caps for Sweden, with his debut coming against the United States in 2009.

  1. Adam is an awesome player and person. It’s true that he’s never been the same since his injury, but take it from a Swede, that dude has something big coming. He’s on his way back and i’m sad as hell that he’s gone. But I wish him, and you guys, the best of luck!

  2. As someone wrote he was really good around 2008-2009 but then suffered a bad injury. Fans shouldn’t expect him to be of national team quality, those days has long since passed. His last two seasons in the swedish league can be described as solid but unspectacular and he will probably perform similarly in MLS.

  3. The article said MLS compares with the league in Netherlands in quality?

(Who is the first to say: what division?)

“I’ve talked to both Hasse Backe (trainer in New York Redbull) and former Hacken player Erik Friberg (formerly of Seattle, now in Malmo FF), comparing league with the Dutch in quality.”

  4. Offensive, a lot of overlapping runs, nice touch and pace with the ball. Was close to earn a starting role on the national team when to blew his knee out two years ago and never looked the same.
