Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

With the word that Landon Donovan is heading to Everton in January, the Toffees are suddenly feeling confident about their chances of climbing back into the top half of the English Premier League standings. If they can make that move before the new year will depend largely on whether Tim Howard and Co. can knock off Norwich City today.

Everton currently sits in 12th place, but can boost up the standings with a victory today. It won't be easy as Zak Whitbread and the Canaries look to build on an impressive season to date.

In Spain, Real Madrid will look to rebound from last week's disappointing loss to Barcelona by beating Sevilla in a match that can hardly be called a pushover.

  1. Can I just say that the Arabic call of those goals is great! As an Arabic speaker, I love the energy of Arab language broadcasters, who for me really can capture the exuberance of the moment.
    Great game for Clint.

  2. Though it is not binding in any way, Potts has been called on and accepted an invitation to a US U-20 camp back in May in Vichy, France.

  3. I agree with this. Jones is good but given his age (and propensity to pick up one yellow card per game) he should be our #3 d-mid behind Bradley and Williams. I’d still prefer to see him over Edu, though, he hasn’t done much.

  4. I read that same article and got the impression Potts was diplomatic about the whole US vs England thing.

Cole and Baines aren’t spring chickens anymore but I don’t know how England’s left back pool is these days. My guess would be Potts has a lot of competition.

You get the impression though that if he had a good shot at playing for England he would prefer that.

  5. Totally agree; but yeah the side benefit of restoring Manchester United and their fan base to the Champions League is just icing on the cake.

Scion thought they were playing big league ball because they could challenge FIFA and UEFA on home Swiss turf; when really they have been playing tiddlywinks.

  6. Come on man, stop the hyperbole. I had FIFA as much as the next, but this is actually fairly expected. The one thing you never do is get governmental courts involved against FIFA, there are plenty of examples of FIFA threatning federations when they don’t follow step.
Use common sense. Scion has been at this for a while, so it wasn’t like FIFA just made it up.
FIFA is based in Switzerland, Blatter is SWISS!!!, but just like any other bully they can’t let scion off the hook because it would encourage others to bring cases to court rather then CAS. Stop with the conspiracy theories, this is not worse then WC bribing

  7. AVB was trying to stop wigan in the center of the park, and romeu and mata are not the guys you want to do that…they should have gone for a 2nd goal instead he made the tactic change a bit too early.
