Soccer Sunday: Your Running Commentary

Tim Howard and Everton find themselves in a logjam in the middle of the English Premier League standings, but if the U.S. national team goalkeeper and his team want to make a run at the top teams in England, they will need a win today against Stoke City to make that happen.

Everton is currently in a four-way tie in the middle of the Premier League table, but the Toffees hold two games in hand on the pack, and wins in those two games could pull Everton within range of arch-rival Liverpool, among others. Stoke has visions of a big jump as well though, and can leapfrog Howard's squad with a victory at Goodison Park.

The best game for most Americans to watch today isn't a professional game, but rather a Under-17 friendly between the United States and Brazil at the Nike Friendlies. Both teams are undefeated heading into the match, with the winner clinching tournament honors. Brazil is the favorite, but the Americans have shown plenty of skill and quality in matches against France and Turkey.

Speaking of Brazil, Corinthians and Palmeiras do battle in the latest installment of the Paulista Derby, with Corinthians capable of clinching a league title with a victory.

  1. Ouch for Querétaro, losing 1-0 on aggregate on an own goal. Although they would have been eliminated with a 0-0 draw anyway, that’s a terrible way to lose.

Santos v Tigres in the final.

  4. With Chicharito down for who knows how long, Carlos Vela may assume a big or at least bigger role with El Tri. He really stepped up today with a wondrous bicycle goal to tie the game in the 89th minute in La Liga play.

  5. 5th league goal in 13 th league match for Jozy

11th goal in 21 matches in all competitions. am i right?

anyone know how many assists has he had this seasons or own-goals are caused of him or goals called off-sides? He has been very unlucky in some matches to not score

  7. Chievo dull draw 0-0 today. But MB was solid in mid, good D, good passing from deep mid, and a few foray’s forward. But Chievo with almost no creative offense.

  8. watching bradley, parkhurst, kljestan at the same time with decent streams. Games are boring though – bradley making most impact – or maybe I can just see him better with his bald head.
