It's do or die for a number of teams across Europe as the UEFA Europa League winds down.
Half of the teams in the field play their final group games of the tournament today, including Clint Dempsey's Fulham, which can cement a place in the knockout round and set the tone for perhaps another deep tournament run with a win or by getting some help.
Two other teams featuring Americans are still slated to play as well, as Jermaine Jones' Schalke and Sacha Kljestan's Anderlecht take to the field. Jones isn't a part of the lineup today for Schalke, which has already clinched its group, but Kljestan assumes his starting role in the midfield for the Belgian side.

a few years ago for fulham he would actually work back hard (but not so much for USA). Seems when his place in the side is assured, his defensive efforts wane…though he always is clutch offensively.
I know what you mean, but….. there are plenty of players that never tracked back, Deco, Zlatan, Blanco. etc. You point still stands, it is a weak part of his game

Dempsey is taken out of the game. Watching Dempsey is a thrill and I like the guy but sometimes he has no defensive fire.
When he lost the ball through out this game he just stands there! And that bugs me. If you look at a Messi or a player of the same caliber, when they lose the ball they IMMEDIATELY start hustling to get it back. Dempsey doesn’t and he should, it would take his game to another level.
