Friday Kickoff: Tevez deal called off, Gibson headed to Everton and more

Carlos Tevez is not headed to Milan.

Talks between Manchester City and AC Milan suddenly broke down after Alexander Pato refused a move to Paris-St. Germain. Milan needed the 20-25 million pound transfer fee from the Brazilian international's move to have any chance of raising the necessary cash. Inter and Juventus are reportedly still interested in the exiled striker but no serious approaches have been made.

Tevez has stood firm in his refusal to return to Manchester City while the club has publicly refused to sell him at a discounted rate. Milan continue to offer a loan deal for Tevez but that has been rebuffed repeatedly by City.

Here are some more stories to kick off your Friday.

EVERTON SIGN GIBSON FROM MAN UNITED

Everton have signed midfielder Darren Gibson from Manchester United for a fee of just under $1 million in the club's first signing of the January transfer window. Gibson, 24, is a product of the United youth development system but was on the fringes of the team this season, making only a handful of appearances. The Ireland international has signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Goodison Park.

TREZEGUET HEADED TO RIVER PLATE

Former France striker David Trezeguet is returning to Argentina where he will join legendary club River Plate. River Plate are currently in the second division of the Argentinian league after being relegated for the first time in history but the move marks a return home for the 34-year-old striker. Trezeguet began his career at Platenese before moving on to success at Monaco and Juventus.

GRANT HEADED TO SERBIA

Former Chelsea and Portsmouth manager Avram Grant is headed to Serbia to take charge of Partizan Belgrade. Local media reported the one-year deal to be valued at around $1.1 million plus a half-million dollar bonus should Grant lead the club back to the Champions League. Partizan currently lead the Serbian league by 10 points at the halfway point.
