The San Jose Earthquakes believe that they have found another compliment to Chris Wondolowski with the signing of Turkish forward Sercan Güvenışık.

The 31-year-old German league veteran impressed the Earthquakes during a two month trial with the club last season, which included scoring two goals in a reserve match against the Los Angeles Galaxy. A former member of the Turkey Under-21 sides, the forward is the first Turkish player in MLS league history. 

"We believe that his experience and know-how will help the team, we've got a lot of young forwards and we wanted to add some experience to those ranks and Sercan does that," head coach Frank Yallop said during a conference call with reporters." He's also pretty good at getting behind defenses, which is something that we didn't have a lot of in years gone by. It's something that we've been trying to address because he's sharp and makes good runs."

Güvenışık spent the last two seasons with Bundesliga 3 side Preußen Münster, where he tallied 14 goals in 56 appearances for the lower division side.  During his 14 year playing career, the former Turkish International also made stops in the lower divsions in Germany as well as the Turkish league. 

Güvenışık, who is currently engaged to an American citizen is awaiting his P-1 visa and will join the Earthquakes after his paperwork is processed. 

EARTHQUAKES RE-SIGN BUSCH

San Jose reinforced their back line on Thursday by re-signing goalkeeper Jon Busch to a new deal. Per league and team policy, the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Busch has shined with the Earthquakes since he was added to the squad in 2010, making 51 appearances in two seasons with the Earthquakes. Last season, Busch played in 33 of 34 for games for San Jose, leading MLS in saves with 118 while notching seven shutouts.

"Jon is quality and the way that he's played for us has been great so that we've got him for another year is great," said Yallop. "I'm very pleased for him and for the club that the [goalkeeper] position is taken care of with him and the emerging David Bingham. "
