Landon Donovan is coming off an outstanding match in Everton's 1-1 draw vs. Aston Villa last week, and he will look to post an even better performance against struggling Blackburn today.

Donovan will look to jump-start an offense that has has its share of struggles, but an offense that could have a field day against struggling Rovers.

In Mexico, Jose Torres and Pachuca look to continue their hot sreaks against a dangerous Cruz Azul side, while Pumas and Monterrey collide in another quality scrimmage.

  1. JFT looks good. Pachucha #10 Cejas continues to hurt the team. Perhaps his suspension will improve the side.

TJ Castillo playing well at LB.

  2. It’s not completely up to Clint. Someone has to be willing to buy him for Fulham’s asking

price and Fulham have to be willing to sell.

If he was 24 it’s completely different. At 28 though this may be his best year ever and it may be downhill after that. Which means, if you are some CL club do you want to pay Clint for what he has done for Fulham?

If he was going to move last year would have been the year but we will see.

  3. I don’t know… he’s had tons of chances, been in tons of dangerous spots… they just aren’t rattlin’ in like they used to,.

  4. “He would benefit from going at players more, ”

    What makes you say that?

Every once in a while it might be a good thing but generally it isn’t.

Most modern managers and this includes JK, talk about playing at a very high tempo, one touch play and quick interpassing in tight spaces.

Taking a guy on and trying to dribble past him slows the game down and screws up ball movement, badly. When Dempsey did that US fans would blast him for being selfish. If you are Zidane or Messi that is one thing but most guys are not.

It screws up the quick movement of the ball and timing of your teamates who are trying to anticipate your moves.

Donovan has generally been like this his entire career. Whether that is because he can’t beat you one on one or whether he prefers to pass his way past you I don’t know. I do know that it is more in keeping with what most managers see as possesion football. Can’t see your way through? Pass the ball to a teamate and reset.

Donovan has played three or four games with these guys. He is trying to keep it basic and simple and give them what they need; at this point that is possession of the ball in the final third and good chances on goal, not showing off his fancy one on one moves, if he has any.
