Today is one of those jam-packed days of soccer action that make you happy to be a soccer fan with a full day with nothing to do but watch soccer.

There is something for everybody today, from the historic Arsenal-Manchester United clash, which will be the first English Premier League match shown live on American network television, to this morning's Manchester City-Tottenham tilt featuring two of the best teams in England.

England doesn't have all the good action. Inter Milan and Lazio square off in a top Serie A clash, while AZ Alkmaar and Ajax battle in one of the better earlier encounters of the day.

On the women's soccer front, the U.S. women's national team returns to action in Olympic qualifying with a match against Guatemala.

  1. LeRoux is the second 2nd half US sub to score 5 goals in this tournament. Morgan also got one, 13-0. LeRoux very nearly had a 6th while I was typing this. Stoppage time.

  2. It isn’t really, though. Mexico and the US each have 6 pts, the DR and Guate each have 0. Mex and US are advancing from Group B.

The only way GD comes into play is if they tie. Mexico, after both their games, were +12. The US went into this game at +14. They could’ve won 1-0 and that would’ve been enough; with a 1-0 win and a US/Mex tie, they’d both have 7 pts, US better GD. If either team wins, they’re 1st on points and GD doesn’t come into play. US did not need to win this 13-0.

  3. I know goal differential is important for the sake of standings, but we’ve been in mercy rule territory for… almost the entire game lol

  4. And LeRoux again. 10-0 in the 70th.

Props to Guatemala for still trying to play. They’ve had a couple chances here and there, they just had a not bad free kick followed up by a shot on goal.

  5. The US Women are 4-0 up on Guatemala in the 30th minute. First two by Wambach, 3rd by Cheney, then Rodriguez.

Mexico beat the DR 7-0 earlier today.

I find it a little mind-boggling that the DR went undefeated in the Caribbean qualifying–and in fact did not concede a single goal–and have now given up 21 in 2 games. Talk about an unbalanced confederation.

  6. No question in your mind maybe, but I beg to differ. He doesn’t fully recover his balance and the “stomp” looks so precisely because it is in slow motion. At game speed, there was no call by the referee and no protest from the Tottenham players. Ask yourself why? English commentators and media now take advantage of any little thing Balotelli does and turn it in to a scandal. Sheep like yourself follow right along because you decided long ago that he is bad/crazy/stupid. Look at the incident in an isolated manner and not as further evidence of what you’ve already decided about Balotelli.

  7. If you are in the West Coast like I am it was at 7:30am and 8:30am for the Rocky Mountain region. But I did see someone in the ATL area say there was a 2 hour tape delay….

  8. Oh please. Give it a rest. What’s shameful is you feigning outrage that anyone would have doubt about intent here. There is nothing crystal clear about this moment in the game. He is pushed just before he steps back. Does that mean he definitely stepped back to regain his balance? No. No one can know for sure but Mario. FA will judge what they think he was doing. I hope they give a little more consideration to circumstances than so many rushing to judgment and saying they are sure what he was thinking.

  9. Oh, give me a break. Any sane person can see that he recovers his balance and then takes an extra hop to stomp on Parker. He leaped to the ground to try to make it look like incidental contact. It would be a comical dive if it wasn’t intended to cover up such a heinous act. And the idea that it only looks bad in slow-mo is nonsense. Regardless of how it LOOKS in regular speed, what happened is obvious in slow-mo. Just look at how Parker’s head disappears from view instantaneously upon the contact. That he didn’t suffer serious injury is a miracle. To defend such an act is totally shameful on your part.

  10. He stumbled! It looks bad in slow motion but a lots of things look worse in slow motion. Watch it in regular speed with no sound. The only reason you or anyone else noticed was the spastic reaction of the biased Anglo broadcasters.
