Landon Donovan's return to Everton is the story of the day in American soccer, and he'll look to make an immediate impact when the Toffees host Bolton at Goodison Park. Donovan has secured a place in the starting lineup, as has goalkeeping stalwart Tim Howard, who is making his 250th Premier League appearance.
The other Premier League match of the day contains major table implications as well, as Manchester United aims to keep pace with Manchester City. In order to do so, the Red Devils will have to top a hungry Newcastle side that is seeing its one-time grasp on a place in the top tier of the league table slipping away.
Elsewhere in the world, a Messi-less Barcelona will look to take a step toward the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey with its Round of 16 first-leg match against Osasuna.
Here is the viewing schedule for the day's matches:
3 p.m. – Fox Soccer Plus/FoxSoccer.tv – Everton vs. Bolton
3 p.m. – Fox Soccer Channel – Newcastle vs. Manchester United
4 p.m. – ESPN3.com/ESPN Deportes – Barcelona vs. Osasuna
If you will be watching any of Wednesday's games, please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the action.
Just trying to follow your own logic.
Oops. Bolton scores again (another well-taken shot). Bolton’s been clinical with their chances, Everton (Saha) not.
Everything is going down the opposite side of Donovan.
Goal Cahill, 2-1 Bolton
I so wish Stu Holden was playing in this game…
Wind is playing a giant part in this game – ball is dying in the air and on the ground. Scary for keepers & Everton long direct passes are going long
Offside notwithstanding, Saha’s wiff was disgraceful.
Whatever happens, Howard’s man of the match right now. Even ignoring the goal, he’s had at least 3 saves your average keeper has no business making.
What, Howard has to do everything?
So it was a one-hopper, the keeper was under a little bit of pressure but seemed to have it under control, but it just took a monster bounce and went past Bogdan.
I bought a pass to foxsoccer.tv to watch this one, couldn’t be happier!
And it wasn’t 35 yards – more like 100.
LD has lost some gas in this second half – as has all of Everton. Bolton goal hasn’t helped
Me too!
To those not seeing it – Howard sent in a massive kick from goal that, probably wind-aided, bounced over the other goalie and scored. In a very classy move (goalkeeper unity) he didn’t celebrate, though the rest of Everton swarmed him 🙂
Bolton just tied it up though (no fault of Howard – perfectly placed shot). So we’re 1-1. The ball’s not going through Donovan as much now, hence the Chicken Littles suddenly saying he’s terrible
Howard recieved a pass back, kicked it straight up field. the wind and his massive leg sent it pretty far, bounced off the grass and caught the bolton keeper a little too far off of his line. bounced into the net.
90 yard blast that bounced over the other team’s keeper.
He booms one from his own box, takes a bounce, the wind speeds it up and it clears the keeper.
Sweet goal Ngog, Howard can’t do anything about that, 1-1 68th
OK… stuck at work w/out Fx.tv… All that ESPN gamecast says is that “Tim Howard (Everton) right footed shot from more than 35 yards”
???????
Could someone type up a more detailed description if that’s actually what happened?
Can someone explain how he scored for those of us without a feed? Thanks.
OK – Tie game again, time for a Donovan Fairy Tale… I can feel it.
I saw it on the ESPN gamecast and I thought it was an error for sure…at work and thanks for the comments.
Someone explain
What the heck happened to the Donovan of the first half? Jeez this dude disappears like Casper.
Oh and golazo!!!!!
Wait, so this isn’t a typo???
63′
Goal! Everton 1, Bolton Wanderers 0. Tim Howard (Everton) right footed shot from more than 35 yards to the centre of the goal. Assisted by Sylvain Distin.
Someone please post a clip of this soon!
Don’t be a fool, he was still good. But he undid the good work by doing something stupid.
Instead of attacking me try holding Donovan responsible for disappearing like usual.
GOAL TIM HOWARD!!!! really!!!
As a Metros/Red Bulls fan, I’ll say I don’t think Bouna Condoul could have done that 🙂
HAHAHA!!!
Headlines will read: “American Ace scores for Everton… No, not that one”
The American scored!!!
BWAHAHAHAAAAAA!!! Did that just happen?
WOW!!!
Holy s–t! The other American scored!!
Goal Tim Howard!
my God what a strong kick.
Wow, Donovan gonna go the full 90!! Everton has used all three subs for injury. Unfortunate for Everton…awesome for us.
HOLY COW! HOWARD!
HOWARD GOLAZO!!!!!!
He was Everton’s second best player in the first half? Wow, Everton must have been REALLY bad because I thought all the good Donovan did was undone by going down (allegedly) softly in the box.
YES!!! HOWARD GOAL!!
An american Scores – who cares which one!!!
There really are no grey areas with you
What happened to Donovan at half time? He went from being their second best player behind Baines to their worst player. I don’t get it, they’re like two different people.
This color guy is loving LD, he can do nothing wrong according to him.
He does look really good though to be fair. Almost all touches are good.
Oof Donovan is lucky that Howard is god in goal.
Brilliant free kick from Cabaye, nothing the keeper could do!! 2-0 Newcastle.
Helluva save for Howard.
Donovan with a bad giveaway in the Everton half. His first misstep.
I didn’t realize how far Saha has fallen until today. Other than one good touch, just doesn’t look interested.
No question. He’s pumping life into an otherwise flat team today.
Anyone else notice that when Donovan touches the ball Everton looks way more dangerous?
