After a red-hot start to the season, Jozy Altidore had lost his starting role for AZ Alkmaar and was mired in a bit of a scoring slump.
At the very least, that slump is now over.
Altidore scored twice in a four-minute span as a substitute in AZ's 6-0 rout of ADO Den Haag on Wednesday to break a two-month scoring drought. Altidore, who entered as a 76th-minute substitute, had not scored since a Dec. 4 loss to Heerenveen. It should be noted that the player who has supplanted Altidore in the starting lineup, Charlison Benschop, netted a hat trick before coming off in favor of him.
After Wednesday's performance, Altidore now has seven goals in league play and 11 in all competitions for AZ this season. The performance also marked his third multi-goal game of the season after he scored twice in back-to-back Europa League and league games in August.
Pretty good day for the all time 10th leading scorer in USMNT history.
This is the proudest I’ve ever been of a SBI thread.
