Americans Abroad: A Look Ahead

The winter transfer window closed this past Tuesday, and a pair of Americans who secured moves during it will be looking to make their debuts in England this weekend.

George John and Robbie Rogers could make their first appearances abroad for West Ham United and Leeds United, respectively, as the Championship gets back into a full weekend swing. John, who scored for the club's reserves a week ago, could debut in West Ham's home game versus Millwall while Rogers aims to get on the field against Bristol City.

Mikkel Diskerud is another player who could see time with his new club. Having just joined Belgian club KAA Gent on loan, Diskerud could play for the club for the first time when it battles OH Leuven on Saturday.

Terrence Boyd stands at longer odds to make his first-team debut, but he might take to the field when Borussia Dortmund takes on Timmy Chandler and FC Nurnberg. Boyd was promoted to training with Dortmund's first team earlier this week after Mohamed Zidan was sold, and a late-game cameo is a possibility for the U.S. U-23 men's national team forward should he dress.

  1. Good call.

    “Why was Landon benched?”

“Is he not working hard in training?”

“It’s cause he isn’t taking people on. I knew this would happen.”

“Should he still be considered a lock on the USMNT?”

  2. After the defensive meltdown against Ipswich, I’m hoping John will get the start against Millwall. Besides, considering the weak opposition, it should be a good way to introduce him to first team play. Millwall’s down at the bottom of the table where they belong.

  3. Kljestan? He plays for Anderlecht in the Belgian 1st division and starts just about every game in midfield.

Mixx Diskerud is who just signed a loan deal with Gent (also in Belgian 1st division – not to be confused with Genk! ha). Gent was in Champions League (and then Europa) last season.

  7. Bradley and Chievo picked up a 2-1 win tonight against bottom club Novara, by the way. Bradley went the distance and looked fine.
