Red-hot Dempsey scores again

Clint Dempsey did it again.

Dempsey scored another goal for Fulham, tallying the opener in the Cottagers' 1-1 draw with West Brom on Wednesday. Costa Rican international Bryan Ruiz slipped Dempsey a pass inside the area, and the American turned and finished with a right-footed strike in the 69th minute to add to his current run of form.

Dempsey's day could have been even better, too. He had a first-half goal called back for being offside, and he very nearly had second goal later in the match, but he misfired on a header from the edge of the 6-yard box off a corner kick that would have given Fulham another lead after West Brom found an equalizer.

For Dempsey, the goal was his 16th in all competitions this season and his 10th in league play. He is two league goals shy of the single-season record for an American in the Premier League — a record that he set last season — and he has scored 11 goals in his last 13 matches in all competitions for Fulham.

Highlights from the match are after the jump:

  1. Jozy Altidore is way over-hyped IMO, and just not a very good footballer.

Dempsey, is in red-hot form. As one of the most effective strikers in the EPL, he is without a doubt, our star striker.

I think we will be much more effective with Dempsey and Agudelo (or Wondo) up top, rather than Jozy Altidore and whoever.

We should start Dempsey up top with Agudelo (or maybe Wondo) with Landon as an attacking midfielder on the right wing and Brek Shea on the left.

As Donovan begins to get older he has proven he possesses a great ability to provide excellent service in the box. He has provided virtually every assist for Everton during this loan spell and he won the Silver Boot in MLS for good reason.

I wish we could start Dempsey up top with Agudelo (or maybe Wondo) with Landon as an attacking midfielder on the right wing and Brek Shea on the left.

  3. he’s also the highest EPL scorer since the start of the new year. i saw an article somewhere talking about the most goals scored in the last 15 games and Clint is up there with RVP and Messi and Ronaldo which is just hard to explain how amazing that is for us US fans

  4. Some claim his age. he’ll be 29 in March.

Others say he’s underrated due to his nationality.

    A little of both.

But Dempsey is worth 10million pounds or so. He can score. 1 goal every 4 matches for Fulham. Not bad for an attacking midfielder/winger on a small team like Fulham. Liverpool or Arsenal or a foreign CL team will snag him come summer.

  5. Good to see. Any reason some bigger clubs aren’t after him? It seems like he’d be of use to a big club and wouldn’t be overly expensive to get.
