Mid-Day Ticker: Tevez returns, Ronaldinho gets Brazil call-up and more

Of all of the options Carlos Tevez was looking at over the last few months, returning to the field for Manchester City was likely the last on the list. But it's getting closer to happening.

Tevez returned to Manchester and had a physical with the club's doctors on Tuesday ahead of a surprise return to the club after three months away from the team. He failed to secure a transfer elsewhere during the winter window and had accrued £1.2 million in fines since leaving in November.

Despite appealing those fines and having strong words about his acrimonious fall out with manager Roberto Mancini, the Argentine striker is set to try and work his way back into the club. According to his comments, he is two weeks away from being fit.

Tevez touched on his last few months and how things transpired in the first place in this interview with an Argentine television station

Here are a couple of more items from around the soccer world:

RONALDINHO RECALLED BY BRAZIL

Ronaldinho's recent dip in form has not hurt his standing with the Brazilian national team, as he was rewarded with a call-up by coach Mano Menezes for the Selecao's friendly against Bosnia & Herzegovina in Switzerland at the end of the month.

Notable omissions from the roster include Kaka, Robinho and Alexandre Pato, though the latter is out of action with an injury.

Here is Brazil's roster for the friendly:

GOALKEEPERS – Diego Alves (Valencia), Julio Cesar (Inter Milan), Rafael (Santos)

DEFENDERS: Adriano (Barcelona), Alex Sandro (Porto), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Danilo (Porto), David Luiz (Chelsea), Dede (Vasco da Gama), Luisao (Benfica), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Thiago Silva (AC Milan)

MIDFIELDERS: Elias (Sporting Lisbon), Fernandinho (Shakhtar Donetsk), Paulo Henrique Ganso (Santos), Hernanes (Lazio), Lucas (Sao Paulo), Sandro (Tottenham), Ronaldinho (Flamengo)

FORWARDS: Hulk (Porto), Jonas (Valencia), Leandro Damiao (Internacional), Neymar (Santos)

WILSHERE CLOSER TO RETURN

Jack Wilshere's injury saga has had almost as many twists and turns as Tevez' transfer quest, but the young Arsenal midfielder and English international is reportedly a month away from returning to action after his latest tests revealed that his ankle was healing and recovering on schedule.

Not long ago, Arsenal had labelled his injury timetable as indefinite after he endured a stress fracture in his surgically repaired ankle. Wilshere's last game was in the Emirates Cup against the New York Red Bulls.

WOLVES NARROW COACHING SEARCH

The search for Mick McCarthy's coaching replacement at Wolves has reportedly been narrowed down to three candidates: Alan Curbishley, Steve Bruce and Neil Warnock.

Curbishley previously managed at Charlton Athletic and West Ham but hasn't been in charge of a club since leading the Hammers in 2008.

Both Bruce and Warnock were fired from other Premier League squads this season, with Sunderland cutting Bruce loose and Queens Park Rangers giving Warnock the axe.

Did you think the Tevez saga would end like this? Hope to see Ronaldinho when Brazil plays against the United States in May? Do you think Wilshere can make a difference for Arsenal this year? Who among those finalists do you think is the best fit for the Wolves job?

  1. Having now read that the manager was “in a bad mood” I now see that poor Tevez has been completely misunderstood and is clearly the good guy in all of this. No one should ever have to put up with being paid millions to play a game for someone who might be in a bad mood!

  2. If Sacha Baron Cohen sees this pic I bet I know what his next film will be about.

BTW very disappointed in City. They are playing so well right now they don’t need this circus.

  4. So much for principles, eh Citeh?
its ok, we all knew that money is what the team is all about,.
Still, nice try holding out that long, its some kind of commitment you got there.

And I dont expect anything better than this from Mancini, When he was at Inter, Figo also refused to go in for Mancini and things went fine.
I mean, its hard to play the hardass who scolds a player for prfessionalism when most (!) fans know that Mancini once QUIT during a game vs Inter when the ref didnt give him a PK.
he walked right off the field and his Sampdoria coach then, Sven Goran Eriksson was livid. he also suspended Mancini for 6 weeks for his actions.

So I really dont expect a quitter like Mancini to have too much problems with Tevez, hes dealt with the same before as a coach and he has done much, much, much worse as a player.
