Report: Moreno says he’s not joining Revs

The New England Revolution thought that they had secured a prized piece to their attacking puzzle by announcing the signing of Colombian forward Jose "Pepe" Moreno on loan from Once Caldas last week. While that still may wind up being the case, there's something a bit awkward and unusual going on.

According to reports out of Colombia, Moreno himself said that he is staying at Once Caldas and turning down the Revs' offer. The Revolution commented on the situation Tuesday night and appeared confident that all the correct channels had been taken to sign Moreno and that the deal was completed.

"We're looking into the report out of Colombia, but Jose signed all of his paperwork, including his contract, last week," the team posted on its official Twitter account Tuesday night.

The club announced his signing last Thursday, figuring that it was adding the 30-year-old No. 9 to an unheralded attacking corps that currently is comprised of new signing Fernando Cardenas, Zack Schilawski, Diego Fagundez, Kenny Mansally and Ryan Kinne.

What do you make of this situation? If Moreno does not join the club, how much trouble do you think that poses for the Revs?

  1. The owner of Once Caldas told a local radio station last night that Moreno wasn’t going anywhere. If it turns out that he’s not coming then Mike Burns needs to get the axe.

  2. DC feels for you, NE. We supposedly had Veron signed before he ran monologuing back to Argentina about his hometown loyalty.

Unfortunately, MLS isn’t respected by many South American players… yet.

  3. not really surprised. i wouldn’t want to play there either. move NE to Baltimore. leave DC alone. at least RFK is our own stadium.

  4. What scares me more is that this is the ONLY move we’ve heard about this year. If they expect to win with 2 center mids (Feils and Joseph) and a goalie, they might end up with the least amount of points in the history of the league. Without other signings, I wouldn’t want to play for the Revs either

  5. I had season tickets front row 40 yard line. Cancelled–too expensive with all the Prozac and beer I had to buy to sit through a game

  6. That would make sense if the team that was in the Super Bowl was “New York based”, except of course they are also in New Jersey.

  7. As a Revs supporter, I hate to say it, but you’re right. I didn’t renew my season tickets because why bother. They’re giving me nothing to get excited about, and I’m just praying they sell the team.

  8. The Revs aren’t even a competitive franchise anymore, just a placeholder until someone else buys them or moves them.

Kraft Soccer is nothing but an embarrassment, a drag on the progress the rest of the league and the sport is making in this country.
