Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

Clint Dempsey will try to keep his torrid hot streak in the English Premier League going against a Manchester City side looking to hold on to first place in one of today's best matches.

The Cottagers are in need of points to move further away from the relegation zone, but earning any in Manchester against a City side coming off a loss to Everton won't be easy. Landon Donovan provided the winning assist in that one, and Dempsey will try to become the second straight American to send City to defeat.

In Spain, Real Madrid will look to maintain its seven-point lead on Barcelona with a win against Getafe, while Lionel Messi and crew will look to down Real Sociedad to maintain their slim hopes of catching Real Madrid.

In Mexico, Herculez and Santos Laguna will look to hold on to first place in the Primera with a win against UNAM Pumas in a battle of CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinalists.

  1. Considering how often these players get injured, I don’t know how often the Fabian, Lichaj, Chandler thing will be an issue. It’s all about the depth.

  2. knuckler is when the ball is not spinning. in this case the ball had back/left spin. howard’s error is he just overplayed it.

  3. Pep, Cesc is not Xavi or Iniesta. Without a striker and both wingers out, teams can narrow the field and make Lio run the gauntlet. Without his miracles who is going to score?

  4. Please do. I think it’s 100x more likely that Castillo improves, becomes more consistent and confident, and plays a major role with the MNT than Garza ever figuring into our plans. He is VERY far from international caliber.

  5. I don’t think it went through his hands. It looked like it was approaching to his left, he moved left, and then it bounced wickedly to his right (past the right side, not through).

  6. van Persie is lifting up Arsenal. His impact on his team is much stronger than the impact made by others because of Arsenal’s relatively poor season.

  7. Oh yah and if you dispute any of the Reds there is no chance of them being overturned and we might add on a few games. Maybe we’ll make it 5 games for touching another players face. Oh the horror this must be stopped.

  8. Djibril Cisse touched a Wolves players face. Red Card 3 1/2 game suspension yah that makes sense. Thanks for paying your money QPR fans but the EPL is for little girls to play in apparently. Barton got close to another player and thought about head butting someone we can’t have that. The little girls must be protected. Thanks for your contribution QPR supporters no touchy, touchy or we’ll suspend someone else.

  9. I don’t think anyone was wondering where is Park. He basically was added as a squad player. Quite frankly, if Arsenal has to rely on Park for heavy minutes at any point in the future, things have gone horribly wrong.

  10. I bet ABC has never even seen a Cholo’s game.

Garza has shown good technical ability and work ethic whenever i’ve seen him on the field.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a start soon.

Hey Jonathon Bornstein is the best left back at Tigres! I have no idea why he isn’t starting more games! Or at least if i say it with enough enthusiasm and conviction, that makes it true, right?

  11. Mixx Diskerud not dressed for Gent today… but I am sure that’s not a surprise. They are dominating the first 5 minutes of this game versus Leuven.

  12. “Garza is slow and generally unimpressive, if he ever suits up for the full US national team I will eat my hat and never state an opinion regarding any American soccer prospect ever again.”

I will hold you to this abc.

That said, don’t really know much about Garza, but your opinion sure is a strong one.

  13. LOL, alright if you feel you have to pull out your cred… I just listed another option other than having had it expired or lost and one that many folks might not be aware of, especially if they don’t have your experience living overseas. For somebody who has never lived overseas before, that might not seem so obvious.
