Porter has done well but you are going way overboard for a guy who has actually accomplished nothing yet at the international and for that matter, the professional level.
Even if he wins the Olympic Gold Medal, there is a very large gap between that and the World Cup.
Maybe you think winning the MLS Cup is horseshit but I can assure you there is a very strong probability that had Kreis been asked and had he accepted the offer he would have done as well as Porter.
@tjones – your measured reasonable approach is not welcome here. Please pick an extreme viewpoint and defend it vigorously. Carry on
Lol Consistently? He has been with the u23 for 4 training camps. How many youth world cups or international tornaments has he won?
I like what Porter brings to the table, but bring the hype down a notch until he proves it at the international level.
I hope he does well and will give him credit when he deserves it, but I wont be making up things. He has done well at the college level, I will give you that.
Is Seb Hines eligible to play for the U-23 team for the olympics if he files his FIFA one time switch ????
Before we proclaim him the next usmnt head coach and crown jewel of the US coaching system let’s at least wait to see how he does at the olympics (if we even get there). Only then will we have a large enough body of work to assess him on.
Missing the point. Kreis is good because he values MLS and has managed to play within the league’s rules and consistently beats the parity problem. He’s not a bad choice, but Porter is proving to be the goose who’s laying a golden egg every time his squad hits the pitch.
Porter is a person who has thrived, yes, thrived, with limited camps and availability. If he gets this squad to medal at the Olympics, which is very much within the realm of possibility, giving him a shot makes sense. Consistently killing his coaching assignments and getting incredible play out of the future 2018 squad, what’s not to love?
Klinsmann is breaking in a system that the younger players are already excelling in under Porter.
Well said. Kreis is next in line.
By the time Porter is the USNT coach, he will have better players and will make his job easier. Thats when the US will play attractive soccer.
Why cant us fans stay in the middle instead of going to the extremes?
Fact is that Porter hasnt done a thing at pro level.
If he keeps doing a great job he will have a bright future at the pro level.
Can you name a succesful international manager who started out as a young unknown and then got his shot and impressed everyone?
I was thinking Joachim “Jogi” Low, Germany’s manager and JK’s former sidekick.
Now compare Porter’s very thin resume before he got the Under 23 job to Low’s.
He seems to have the potential and if he got the job he might well do a fine job but please don’t tell me he is “well equipped” after you compare his resume to a guy like Low or even Bob Bradley before they were elevated to national team manager.
You want a young American? Maybe the best choice would be Kreis. If you are not impressed what he has done with senior professionals (not Under 23 kids) from around the world in making RSL the tough nut it is, then I don’t know what to tell you.
there is another video of his training in which it shows some one touch and it looks so much crisp and faster than any senior training vid that I have ever seen from the USA. If Porter can do some damage at the Olys I wouldn’t be surprise if he is JK’s assistant for this cycle and one day take over the the team.
Porter will give Alexi nightmares.
Haha people like you make this board more difficult to stomach.
But that’s a fact….
hahaha except he turned down DC United and went undefeated when he took Akron to Spain without the players that turned pro to play against 2nd division teams
Akron is college soccer. College soccer blows. Accomplish something at the pro level first.
Hes only 37, has turned Akron into a powerhouse despite having players turn pro every year, plays an attractive and effective system that he can obviously implement well considering the U-23 teams relative success in such little time. He was hired for a reason
Why? What the hell has this guy ever accomplished to be considered the next USA head coach?
you sound like an idiot
Klinnsmann is not revamping anything. Reyna is the brains behind our youth program and has been altering it towards a possesion oriented style before klinnsman arrived.
So good to finally have pro-active style coaching in the U.S. program. Yeah I think this guy has what it takes to be the next USMNT coach. Not only that these players would ultimatley be most of the player pool he would inheret from Klinsmann. Which would mean all of the players would be comfortable in his system and tactics. But who’s to say Klinsmann won’t be the coach for the 2018 WC cycle as well.
Win a medal, Porter. Then come back and take over for JK in a couple of years, and JK will move upward in the system…
Amen brudda
Next USMNT coach? I hope so. Once Klinnsmann revamps our youth soccer culture and turns the US overall style into a possession oriented pass and move team, Porter will be well equipped to continue on in search of a WC (2018, 2022?!)
