Bill Hamid is expected to miss the next one to three weeks with the ankle injury he picked up while with the U.S. Under-23 men's national team, D.C. United announced on Thursday.

MRI results revealed the 21-year-old goalkeeper suffered a ligament sprain and bone contusions to his left ankle in the first half of the U.S. team's 3-3 draw with El Salvador on Monday, a result that knocked the Americans out of Olympic qualifying.

"I tried to test it by jumping, moving side to side, doing some high knees right there on the field," said Hamid. "But once I did it there was no doubt in my mind that I would do nothing but hurt the team by staying on."

Hamid, who was replaced by Sean Johnson in the 39th minute of the tie, trained with D.C. United on Thursday for the first time since sustaining the injury. He was on the exercise bike while his teammates trained on the field.

Should Hamid be out of action for three weeks, he will miss games versus FC Dallas, the Seattle Sounders and New England Revolution. Backup goalkeeper Joe Willis is expected to start in Hamid's place.

What do you make of Hamid being out one to three weeks? Think United will win without Hamid in the lineup?
