The newest soccer-specific stadium in MLS is set to open on May 12, and it will be packed to capacity for its unveiling.
The Houston Dynamo announced that BBVA Compass Stadium is already sold out for the club's home opener against D.C. United, which will mark the opening of 13th soccer-specific venue in the league. The only seats that can still be had for the match, which is more than two months away, are attainable through season-ticket packages.
While the Dynamo hit the road for the first seven games of the season as stadium workers complete construction and take care of the finishing touches, they'll return to Houston to a place they can truly call their own after playing at the University of Houston's Robertson Field since 2006.

Season tickets can be had for a four hundred dollars. I’m sorry if you can’t swing that … But our economy does work on the idea that valuable things go to those who are willing to pay for it.

stage? really? you are like the only one who uses that as an advantage. Houstons new stadia is gorgeous, BUT RBA is a true football ground, than houston, than SKC…
Don’t get me wrong…the pure location puts other Soccer-Specific Stadiums to shame like the formerly known Pizza Hut Park a.k.a “The Oven” or Crew Stadium or even maybe Toyota Park to an extent…..

Scalp some tickets. The organization is rewarding long time supporters. The tickets get sold either way, and it’s not like the people who got tix ahead of you are casual fans.

Seriously, though, we Houstonians are pumped. It may not be the flashiest of the stadiums, but it’s still sexy and it’s downtown. Take that, every other SSS in MLS!
The facility, a.k.a. Orange Crush Stadium, will be a first of it’s kind (Green-eco friendly facility) and from what I hear it has a special ionized outer metal shell that turns a vibrant orange that can be seen via aircraft or even satillite when games are in progress. That’s gonna be awesome! Image flying over Texas and seeing a bright orange Stadium off in the distance. LOL! Go Dynamo!
As a season ticket holder, I was offered a chance to purchase additional tickets for the season opener before tickets were made available to the public. I purchased additional seats in addition to the season tickets I already own. I’m sure many Houston fans did the same, thus the game is sold out before tickets went on sale. Sorry bro! The game will be televised in HD which is almost like being there! :-

It’s on the border of Downtown, you can’t really see the skyline of it from that angle which is looking Southwest from the Northeast corner, if you look West from the East you see the Skyline of Downtown Houston.

Could of gotten a 5 or 10 game package, they started at 110…a single ticket was going to run you at least 20-25 bucks…so for a few dollars less you buy 5 or 10 games, could of had your pick of watching a game vs Montreal who are now somewhat hated by Houston after the Ching debacle….could of gone to see them play the team they beat in last year’s Eastern Conference Finals Sporting Kansas City, or maybe LA since they will finally play them early in the season in Spring time and not late when maybe there’s yellow card accumulation or LA has already clinched thus the stars don’t play like last year….or maybe 1 or both matches vs NY to see Henry and the other hyped must see ticket of Red Bulls???? You had options! Now watch on TV, it will be a HUGE boost if Dynamo can get a TV deal with say Fox Sports Houston to show all or most of their games and ACTUALLY GET PAID!
I’d still put LSP ahead of BBVA Compass Stadium simply because this stadium is very “Functional” and doesn’t have some of the bells and whistles that RBA or LSP have. For example the entrance is more like PPL behind one of the goals, at both of the other 2 is in the middle tunnel style with Recaro Style seats for the team benches, and RBA has no stage, LSP has a stage but it’s more like removable bleachers. Here they have some removable seats I think to make room for a stage but they have this Balcony/patio thing….
Plus the technological capabilities and features of LSP make up for the 4,500 that BBVA has on it in bigger capacity. LSP has gotten 20K+ in the stadium before tho for USMNT match last Gold Cup and other SKC matches. I think this stadium is pretty much on par with say The Home Depot Center but even then it has some stuff to be desired in terms of the press boxes/broadcasting booths, luxury suites and stadium club…
Well months ago I think I heard on Glenn Davis’ show “Dyanmo All-Acess” that they were around the 10-11K. That was around early to mid December. I was asking for a figure as far as where the cap is or at least what they would like to sell in terms of Season Tickets.
My guess is they probably are close to that mark probably at around 13-15K and the cap might be 17-18K….with mini season ticket plans and group sales as well as Season Ticket Holders buying extra tickets they probably sold all the tickets they might of had to sell when they made them available to the public. I know the Luxury Suites and VIP boxes are pretty much sold out….
Just checked out the Houston site for some more stadium porn. Place looks great. As a Red Bull Fan, it was a great feeling the first time into the stadium to pick out my season tickets when it was still under construction, and then to watch the first game there against Santos. Good luck to Houston fans with your stadium, looks like an amazing place. Hope to make it down there sometime to take in a match against the Red Bulls…
Yeah, but I imagine it’s hard to argue for a DP when you made it to the MLS Cup without one.
Either way, this new stadium should help increase revenue and $$$ for DPs later on down the road.
I think it’s BS that the Yankees didn’t give me a ticket to opening day this year.

From the look of that picture I thought it would be out in the suburbs. Glad to hear it’s close, that’s definitely one of the things that have drawn casual fans to some of the better attended teams.

When they released the original decide I was a little skeptical. After seeing the near completed product I am impressed. The orange on the exterior is a nice touch.
Too bad they didn’t get a DP to go with the opener. Most teams improved their rosters in the offseason, while teams like Houston and SKC got slightly weaker.

The stadium looks incredible and is about a 5/10 minute walk from anywhere in downtown. Can’t wait for it to open. I’ve been a season ticket holder since day one and this has been a long time coming. All credit to Dynamo front office, players, fans, city, county and everyone else that had a hand in getting it done.
Here is a tip for all the mls supporters, if you are going to complain or celebrate something that the team you support is doing wrong or rigth go to the teams site and do it there.
This is a great blog, but if you want to support your team or complain about something go and post at the teams web site,so they can know about it. I often go and check the MLS team sites and its like a ghost town, supporters rather go to other blogs and post there. If I were you I would rather go to the source.
I was thinking about this, too. My guess is that they would open up those tickets closer to the game, but with 9 weeks to go, they dont want to miss out on the guaranteed full season revenue of a season ticket holder.
Any sport league in the US operates the same way. Welcome to big boy sports in America played with big boy money. You can always go watch a rec league if you want a single game seat for opening day
This is some heavy BS. I understand that the Dynamo want to sell as many season ticket packages as possible, but not making ANY seats available for the single-game/non-group ticket buyers is really uncool. I can’t currently afford season tickets; why should I not get a chance to go to the game and see the stadium opening? I’m pretty upset about this, actually–I think I should have as much of a chance to see the game as the next person, even if I don’t have season tickets. I’m very excited about the stadium and would love to go to the game… but apparently I’m not allowed to.
From the press release: “Tickets to the match (broadcast nationally by NBC Sports) were purchased by Dynamo season holders and also through a private pre-sale for season ticket and group ticket buyers.”
I wonder how many STHs they already have, how many more they’re hoping for, etc.

Really impressed by that stadium. Definitely top 3 SSS as far as looks go (RBA, LSP other two). Houston fans deserve it.
