Rapids sign one-time U.S. forward Hill

Kamani Hill is coming back to the United States.

The Colorado Rapids signed the one-time U.S. national team forward on Wednesday, adding him to a forward stable that is already set to get Conor Casey back from injury in the coming weeks.

Sources told SBI that the Rapids acquired Hill through a lottery — they were the only participants — and as a result, the club is prohibited from taking part in any other player lotteries this season, though the club did not specify that in its official announcement. Vancouver is also in that position after winning a lottery for Lee Nguyen.

Hill, 26, was training with the Rapids for the last two weeks and was most recently with Vitoria SC in Portugal. After a standout career at UCLA he landed a deal in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in 2006 before moving to Portugal in 2009. The California native appeared in games for the U.S. national team in 2007 in friendlies against China and Sweden while at the height of his career but struggled to find consistency overseas.
