Revs add Nguyen in waiver draft

The Vancouver Whitecaps' decision to cut Lee Nguyen has turned out to be the New England Revolution's gain.

The Revolution picked Nguyen in Friday's MLS waiver draft, adding the one-time U.S. international into the fold. New England was second in the waiver draft order behind Vancouver, which cut Nguyen on Thursday despite winning a weighted lottery for his services less than three months ago. According to the Vancouver Sun, Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie said that the decision to cut Nguyen was purely a soccer decision based on the fact that the club had other similar options that it would rather keep.

With Nguyen in tow, it offers New England coach Jay Heaps more flexibility in his midfield, which already boasts the likes of Benny Feilhaber, Shalrie Joseph, standout rookie Kelyn Rowe and veteran Clyde Simms. Nguyen, who tested the European landscape and starred in Vietnam before signing with MLS, isn't completely foreign to those on the Revs, as he and Feilhaber were teammates on the 2007 U.S. Copa America team.

What do you think of the pick-up? Do you see Nguyen fitting in with New England?

  1. Bring the team here to Rentschler Field in East Hartford! They can still be called New England anyway, and there are some huge soccer towns in central CT like Wethersfield, Farmington, and Simsbury. No doubt you would get alot of fans

  2. Has to be a plus for him. Nguyen is likely to see time with the Revs. As for the V-league, it is better than you might suspect. I have seen games while living in Hanoi and found the play to be often technical and quick. Not so physical though. I think that will be his biggest obstacle in MLS. I wish him luck! Show your worth, Nguyen!

Well, we shall see… Bit presumptuous, kinda like scoring drafts before the season.
