This Weekend’s Soccer on TV

Michael Bradley's recent play has earned him headlines in the United States and in Italy, and he has another chance to earn some more when going up against a traditional Italian power on Friday.

Bradley's Chievo Verona hosts reeling Inter Milan with a chance to pull level with the Serie A giant on Friday as part of a weekend filled with top-notch fixtures both abroad and domestically.

MLS kicks off its 17th season this weekend, and even though there are no nationally televised games for Saturday's opening games, the league has made its MLS Live package free for this weekend for fans to be able to catch all the action.

Things get started on Saturday in Vancouver and Colorado, as the expansion Montreal Impact face their Canadian competitors, while the Rapids welcome the Columbus Crew in a meeting of teams who have clashed in the postseason the last two years.

Here is this weekend's soccer on TV:

  1. Also, did anyone notice that MB played much of 2nd half tucked inside on the right? Why different? I don’t get to see Chievo play so much.

And when is someone going to the bright idea to make Americans Abroad into a separate cable channel?

  2. Those first 20 minutes MB was awesome. Not as much after that. He really looked like he was doing his darndest to conserve energy. Looked a little better the last 15. Sorrentino deserved a better result.

  3. Well, there you go. you play defensively looking for the 0-0 tie, and you get burned. Inter scores header goal on a 87 min corner.

  4. Dang. MB cracks a free kick but dips too late. With 10 mins to go, doubt Chievo will find more chances to steal the points.

  5. 2nd half – all Inter. Chievo is sloppy & defensive. Chievo hope to hold inter and get counter attack goal. MB also more sloppy this half, 3 passes so far.

  6. Yeah, although their first 15 minutes were good, Chievo seems to have shrunk back into their bunker. They look content to wait for counter opportunities to score. MB and sorrentino (keeper) are best donkeys in first half.

  7. Chievo have no interest in maintaining possession. The fact that they’re doing so well with this strategy kind of embodies what’s wrong with Serie A these days.

  8. MB is looking good – winning balls and frustrating Maicon. But the rest of Chievo is not so good now, making mistakes/poor passing.

  9. Remember the days when Bradley was scoring left and right. I miss those. Today would be a great day for him to open his scoring in Italy

  10. Penalty against Chievo – handling in the box. Melito’s penantly is saved – Sorentino has been a good keeper for chievo.

  11. Yeah – at 12 minutes it’s a wide open attacking match with Chievo having the best of it. MB is right in the attack.

    Reply
  12. Yeah, so far it’s feeling pretty even.

I also like how MB is getting plenty of opportunities to develop his set pieces (corners and free kicks).

  13. Watching Chievo… if anyone is watching Kaiserlautern please post something to alert us Chievo watchers if Andrew Wooten gets in the game.

  14. Bradley setup as left mid in front of Drame. I like it – he gets more into the attack when playing on the sides. looks like a wide open game already. Let’s see if Chievo can hang with milan

  15. Has there been an update on whether NBC Sports will be offering the live-stream of their MLS games? In the press release from November, they said they would but I haven’t seen any update from then and it doesn’t appear on their live-stream schedule on their site. Major fail if they don’t get that working. Thank god for MLS live, streaming is the way of the future; it’s the way of the future, it’s the way of the future… NBC, please make it happen.
