Major League Soccer's opening week is in the books, and while a few team performances are what stood out the most, there were some individual moments that deserve another look.

A few of the First Kick goals boasted quality right of the gates to help kick off MLS' 17th season.

Between Vancouver's build-up that led to Camilo's game-icing goal against Montreal, Colorado forward Quincy Amarikwa's clinching upper 90 blast against Columbus, Portland winger Kalif Alhassan's chip that snuck inside the far post against Philadelphia, and Ricardo Villar and Kenny Cooper's finishes in the FC Dallas-New York Red Bulls match, there were certainly some memorable moments in Week 1.

  1. Well, the difference is whether we want to reward skill or luck. Not sure I believe him that it was intentional – my impression when I saw it was that it was luck. And of course he said he did it on purporse, who wouldn’t? (And yes, I know, there’s an element of luck on every play, but given the choice between a bit of skill executed perfectly, and a seemingly fantastic move that was executed poorly with a great result, I’d rather reward the skill. Just my opinion.)

  2. I’m confused. Was Kalif credited with a “goal” or not? Oh! He was?

Then it was a GOAL. No one cares about shot v cross v pass.

It was a GOAL. Thus it is eligible for the GOAL of the week isn’t it?

  3. He said so in an interview. As Timbers fans we’ve seen him try this for two years. And lastly Ian Joy, former teammate tweeted he tries this about 10 times each practice.

  4. I could not agree more. Amarikwa’s goal was a beauty, no denying that, but we have seen some great strikes countless times in MLS. This ‘Caps goal was a true rarity for the league, showing it is taking a step in the right direction. Beyond the dummy and one touch passing, it is reassuring to see a big talented forward tracking back deep in his half to win a tackle and start a killer counter attack. Hope to see more of this le toux, camilo, hassli, chiumiento combination!

  5. Camilo Sanvezzo’s goal vs. Montreal… great team buildup followed by individual flair.
Don’t see that enough in MLS unfortunately.

  6. can’t pick from the first 3. Amarikwa and Allhasan’s goal were a great individual goals that sealed their victories and vancouver’s was just a great team play all three were great.

  7. Assuming Kalif’s was supposed to be a goal (I believe the boy), then it wins. He’s been trying that one for so long, finally executed perfectly.

  8. Love the build on Camilo’s goal. Very rare that you see that kind of build up in MLS. Very nice. Kalif’s goal was just awesome though and required 2 great pieces of skill in one goal.
