Sporting Kansas City's perfect run is over.

Right back Chance Myers inadvertently headed a Kris Boyd cross into his own net in the 41st minute to account for the only goal, as the Portland Timbers dealt Sporting KC their first loss of the season, a 1-0 decision at Jeld-Wen Field.

Portland's defense held tight in the face of SKC pressure down the stretch, with centerbacks Eric Brunner and Hanyer Mosquera each coming up with big stops on the doorstep to deny SKC the equalizer during the physical encounter. For Portland, the win snapped a four-game losing streak, while Sporting Kansas City — playing its second match in the Pacific Northwest in four days — fell to 7-1-0 after a record start to the season.

Match highlights are after the jump:

  1. Good size group traveled from KC to watch the game. Nice to see all the traveling supporters. Never would have imagined it a few years ago.

Hope they enjoyed the perfect weather.

  2. Myers probably doesn’t put that in his own net has his own defender not kicked him in the face as he was going to head behind. Very unlucky, but it was gonna take something like that to break their streak and it had to end at some point.

  3. Announced his signing on Friday at 2pm PST. Not really enough for 48 hours to leave Montreal for his new digs. These guys learn where they’re going the day of or the day before.

  4. Not in Portland yet. Trade was 24 hours prior.

Honestly Portland does not need another forward (though if he turns out to be good enough it may be Dike or Perlaza who gets displaced).

He is, essentially, Eddie Johnson’s replacement as he retired … but we haven’t even come close to needing Johnson even if he was healthy, so I think Fucito will either stay because he is good enough or be quickly packaged and traded yet again for more depth at CM and wide defense.

  5. Where was Fucito? This guy is going to come back to haunt Seattle. With his pace, energy, and striking ability, he is the prototypical 3rd Striker if he can develop.
