This Weekend’s Soccer on TV

This weekend, all eyes are on Camp Nou.

Barcelona and Real Madrid clash in another edition of El Clasico that has plenty of Spanish title ramifications. This match might not be the last between the star-studded rivals this season. If both can overturn one-goal deficits in the UEFA Champions League semifinals next week, then the next Clasico will have the ultimate prize on the line: A European championship.

There are plenty of noteworthy games happening across the globe outside of Spain as well, as Chelsea and Arsenal meet in a London derby with major table implications; Tim Howard and Everton look to spoil Manchester United's march to the Premier League title; and AS Roma aim to get back in the Champions League fold by dealing Italy-leading Juventus their first loss.

In Mexico, Santos Laguna have their eye on overturning their CCL final deficit to Monterrey, but before that Herculez Gomez' second-place side has a shot to go top of the table in their meeting with league-leading Tigres UANL.

In MLS, rivals D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls meet for the first time this season, while the San Jose Earthquakes and Real Salt Lake clash with first place in the Western Conference on the line.

Here is this weekend's soccer on TV:

  1. AZ and Jozy desperately need a win. Although 2nd, they’re just a point from dropping to 6th in the tight top of the table.

  2. Atletico Madrid v Espanyol on Sunday. Someone in La Liga has a sense of humor. And if you don’t get GolTV or ESPNDeportes may I suggest firstrowsports.eu….

  3. Aren’t all the soccer games that were scheduled for Galavision moving to the new Univision Deportes channel (which is unfortunately only available on Dish Network)?

  4. Just checked the soccernet.com homepage and the ‘ESPN Matches of the Week’ has the Classico listed at Saturday – 2pm.

  5. Anyone know of a good bar/pub in San Luis Obispo where I can catch an EPL game Sunday morning? My girl is running the marathon (6AM start), so I will be in need of a spot to watch the games and have a drink reall early.

  6. I swear when I checked ESPN TV Guide last week the game was scheduled to show on ESPN2. Oh well, ESPN3.com is not a bad option since I have my computer connected to my TV.

  7. GolTV owns English-language TV rights, ESPN has Spanish and internet.

I believe the games that appear on ESPN2 on occasion have to be sub-licensed from Gol. And they sure as hell ain’t giving this one up…

  8. GolTV has the TV rights…it is weird they gave the spanish TV rights to ESPN Deportes though, but I’m sure they paid a lot for it. And naturally GolTV doesn’t mind giving internet rights to ESPN3 for this game since they don’t have a streaming service.

  9. No Galavision MLS game this weekend and no Sounders game either. Not the usual 5 games, I might just save my marriage for another week.

  10. Why isn’t Barcelona/Madrid not on ESPN or ESPN2?(I don’t have ESPN3 or ESPN Deportes) They showed games on those channels the last two weeks and they have Gruden Camp and World Strongest Man showing at those times.
