Union vs. Earthquakes: Match Night Commentary

Philadelphia Union Logo San Jose Earthquakes Logo

The Philadelphia Union will look to keep their three-match shutout streak rolling against one of the hottest teams in MLS as the West-leading San Jose Earthquakes visit PPL Park tonight.

The Union defense has helped the team turn around a slow start to the season and consecutive 1-0 victories have Philadelphia feeling good heading into tonight's showdown against a San Jose side riding their own unbeaten streak.

Philly's defense will try to slow down Earthquakes striker Chris Wondolowski, who has been one of the top scorers in the league this season. Offensively, the Union will be counting on Freddy Adu to keep his recent run of good form rolling.

  1. This was not a boring match. It was a match that SJ dominated large part of (particularly the first half and the end of the second).

Having commentary that is one-sided is okay if you acknowledge that you are covering everything with a Union bias, but it is poor if you pretend that you are being objective when in fact you are not.

  2. Lenhart & Chavez just killed ’em tonite- combined for both goals. and no yellow card for Lenny (he’s got a steak dinner bet w/ Coach that he wont get one in the next 3 game- two more to go).

Philly defended well and really made things difficult all the way to the end. SJ had lots of posession, but the Union always seemed to make a tackle at just the right time to snuff out a lot of other good chances, or Macmath came up with a good save. they appeared to get tired at the end, while the Quakes kept pushing.
