Americans Abroad: A Look Ahead

Herculez Gomez may not have had a chance to help Santos Laguna in the first leg of the Clausura Liguilla final, but the short turnaround before the second game could provide him a prime opportunity to help push the club to a championship.

Santos will have just two days to rest before hosting Monterrey in the final match of the Mexican season on Sunday, and that brief break might force Gomez to start after not playing in the opening fixture on Thursday. Santos Laguna currently have a narrow edge on Monterrey, but a goal would help them tremendously in their efforts to get retribution for failing to capture the CONCACAF Champions League earlier this year.

Another intriguing game will take place in Denmark, where a pair of American centerbacks will do battle. Michael Parkhurst and Clarence Goodson are set to square off as FC Nordsjaelland visits Brondby IF. Parkhurst and Nordsjaelland need a win over their struggling opponents if they hope to keep their dreams of finishing in first alive.

Here is who the Americans Abroad face this weekend:

SATURDAY

Steve Clark and Honefoss BK play Valerenga.

SUNDAY

Quentin Westberg and Evian Thonon Gaillard play Brest.

Charlie Davies and Sochaux play Marseille.

Oguchi Onyewu and Sporting CP play Academica de Coimbra in the Taca de Portugal final.
