A record-setting crowd of 60,860 — a record for a professional club match in Canada — arrived the Olympic Stadium looking for some excitement on Saturday afternoon and boy, did they get it.
A vintage free kick goal from David Beckham from in the 62nd minute negated Davy Arnaud's eighth minute strike to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 1-1 draw with the Montreal Impact.
Montreal jumped out of the gate early when a Nelson Rivas pass caught Arnaud on a one-on-one with Galaxy 'keeper Brian Perk allowing the Impact captain to slot it in for the early goal. However, Los Angeles equalized in the 62nd a Rivas foul set up a Beckham free kick that the Englishman blasted into the top right corner of the net.
The Galaxy may have taken full points if it wasn't for the stellar play of their former goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, who registered six saves against his former club to give the Impact the draw at home.

Wow. Money well wasted. Way to go MLS. Last season it was NY that was the laugh of the league. This season, LA. I just wish they could both suck at the same time.
I have no particular dislike for Beckham, Donovan, Keane, Arena, et al, but I must confess that I do find myself pleased when LA is struggling.
Becks looks like a slightly less-ugly Raul Meireles.
