Dwayne DeRosario has made a habit of haunting his former teams, and Saturday he burned the hometown team that traded him away just a year ago.
DeRosario scored in the very first minute, and then again just before halftime to lead surging D.C. United to a 3-1 victory over Toronto FC at RFK Stadium on Saturday. The loss dropped Toronto FC to 0-9, extending the club's MLS record season-opening losing streak.
Toronto FC showed some life in the second half when Danny Koevermans pulled one back, but any optimism generated from that goal was quickly extinguished when Hamdi Salihi scored for D.C. to put the match out of reach.
The victory moved D.C. United into second place in the East, just one point behind the New York Red Bulls. The loss leaves TFC without a point as the team heads toward the second leg of the Canadian Championship final against Vancouver on Wednesday. The team's are tied 1-1 after the first leg, and TFC head coach Aron Winter likely needs a victory on Wednesday to keep his job.
