Just a few days ago Liverpool and Chelsea were vying for the FA Cup, and after the Blues' triumph at Wembley Stadium, the two clubs meet again.
Liverpool hosts Chelsea at Anfield in a rematch of Saturday's final (3 p.m., Fox Soccer Channel), with the Reds looking to finish off an uneven season on a high note in their home finale, and Chelsea trotting out a lineup with only three players who started Saturday while looking to stay sharp prior to the UEFA Champions League final.
The match marks Fernando Torres' first one at Anfield since being sold from Liverpool to Chelsea last season, and the Spanish striker is in the starting XI for Roberto Di Matteo's squad.
If you will be watching Tuesday's game, please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the action.
Bad result from a Newcastle perspective. A Liverpool loss would’ve meant Everton were guaranteed to finish above them. I have to think they’ll be more up for the game against Newcastle than they might have if the game went the other way.
Really? Looks like he got him pretty clean to me. Maybe Ivanovic fooled me too?
Either way, Suarez is a pig.
that was faked. ivanovic took atleast 4 dives in that game. suarez is dirty not this time.
Full time. 4-1 Liverpool. Chelsea MUST win the CL to play in CL next year.
Liverpool brings on the 17 year old Sterling for Downing. Never seen him play, interested in seeing what he’s got.
Holy crap… Suarez just punches Ivanovic as he goes in for a “tackle” and gets no card. Ivanovic refuses to shake Suarez’s hand after he gets up.
I want to say that I’ve seen Suarez involved in a refused handshake before… hmmmmm.
Suarez is a dirty, dirty player.
And, they die again… Turnbull plays a clearance directly to Shelvey who hits a laser into an open net from about 30 yards. Great finish, although the ball was gifted to him.
4-1 Liverpool.
Ramires breathes life back into Chelsea. 3-1 Liverpool.
That would solve several problems….
And Tim Howard still has more goals and assists than Stewart Downing.
Terry and Ivanovic obviously couldn’t be bothered. Might as well put Hutchinson on for one of them.
Penalty to Liverpool. Ivanovic with a bone-head elbow to Carroll in the box.
Downing hits the post. Carroll misses the rebound.
Half time. Chelsea lucky to escape down only 3.
sigh.
Almost got your wish! Downing with a dipping volley that hits the crossbar and goes over. Wow.
Mata, Lampard and Cole warming up already. Whoops.
I’d seriously look into that. This is just weird.
Wow, Romeu is having a shocker. He is slow and is giving the ball away right and left.
Ridiculous that Suarez was flagged for offside when he chased down the rebound. Did he gain an advantage from being in an offside position? Actually it meant he had much more ground to cover as he had to run back in the direction of his own goal to track down the rebound.
Downing just needs to score to make this complete.
Wow, Torres hits the crossbar from a tight angle. Reina was beat. Unlucky. Torres is in good form.
He MUST have money on a 4 goal spread. He is such a P.O.S.
Good save from Turnbull prevents Liverpool from going up 4-0. Terry might be. Perhaps hungover from celebrating this weekend?
Is John Terry drunk? Serious question.
You would think AVB was managing with a Chelsea defensive performance like this.
This is painful. A bit of a letdown after winning the Cup 3 days ago. oh, did I say a BIT of a letdown.
It is weird how Chelsea have gave up on the league season. Especially with the poor form of Tottenham and Arsenal. They have played weakened sides since after the first leg against Barcelona.
Holy sh*t. 3-0 Liverpool. 29th minute.
Off a corner, Carroll beats Terry to knock it back across to Agger who easily finishes with his head.
Oh, by the way, Chelsea is in the Champion’s League final.
Wow, 2-0 Liverpool. Terry slips and Henderson finishes a break-away. So far, this experiment is not going well for Chelsea.
Terry is a great defender but, it is always funny when he slips. Liverpook 2-0
Wow. You may be right.
Waiting for Terry and Suarez to shank each other…
Wow, the danger here for Chelsea is that they are a bit disinterested. Terry looks drunk.
Agreed re: Cole and Bosingwa… the midfield does require some work without Meireles and Ramires.
Not a bad thought, Dinho. I do think, though, the rest comes in with ACole and Bosingwa. I’m pretty sure that Bertran (who I believe is going to be great, btw) and Ferreira won’t be playing in the CL final.
Anyone got a feed?
There is a week and a half until the CL Final. I don’t think it’s a matter of rest. I imagine this selection is to try things out as a de facto rehearsal for the final? Just a thought.
Hmmm, was the kick to Malouda’s head unintentional? Certainly looked like Schelvey lagged his foot a bit to clip his head.
Well, this lineup for Chelsea is serviceable. The CL suspensions actually make selection easier since there is no reason to rest Terry, Ivanovic, and Ramires.
