The Montreal Impact appear to be closing in on their big-name acquisition.

According to numerous reports out of Canada and Italy, the Impact are on the verge of signing Bologna striker Marco Di Vaio through the 2013 MLS season. Di Vaio, who will be 36 in July, is reportedly holding a press conference on Friday to announce his future intentions.

Should Di Vaio, who has 10 goals for Bologna this season, sign, he would join Matteo Ferrari and Bernardo Corradi as Italians on the Impact's roster. Di Vaio played with Corradi at Valencia, and the two could reprise their partnership under first-year coach Jesse Marsch.

Here are a couple of more items from around the league:

AGUDELO COULD PLAY IN LA

Juan Agudelo's return to action may come as soon as this weekend.

Agudelo traveled with the New York Red Bulls to Los Angeles for their Saturday match against the Galaxy, and he will be given a 25-minute limit, according to comments made by coach Hans Backe. Agudelo is coming off a torn meniscus, which he suffered while on duty with the U.S. Under-23 national team during Olympic qualifying.

Agudelo's return could not come at a better time for the Red Bulls, who are short-handed up top with Thierry Henry being ruled out for up to the next month with a hamstring strain. Agudelo has made one appearance this season, a 90-minute effort on opening day at FC Dallas.

WARSHAW BREAKS FOOT

FC Dallas can't seem to escape the injury bug.

After seeing the likes of David Ferreira, Fabian Castillo, Ricardo Villar, Kevin Hartman and Carlos Rodriguez all miss time with injuries, FCD suffered another loss, as Bobby Warshaw fractured a fifth metatarsal in his right foot and will need surgery. He will undergo the procedure on Friday, according to a team release and be put on injured reserve while he recovers.

Warshaw, a second-year midfielder who has also chipped in across the back line, suffered the injury in Tuesday's reserve game against Sporting Kansas City. Of note in that game is that former Portland Timbers midfielder James Marcelin was in the FCD lineup as a guest trialist.
