SBI MLS Team of the Week: Chicago Fire

This week was supposed to be a brutal one for the Chicago Fire, with two of MLS' top teams coming to Toyota Park in a four-day stretch. Instead of succumbing to the tough slate, though, the Fire came up with two disciplined performances and four hard-earned points.

The Fire held Real Salt Lake to a 0-0 mid-week draw and overcame an early injury to Arne Friedrich to come from behind and deal Sporting Kansas City their third straight loss with a 2-1 result Saturday night to win SBI MLS Team of the Week honors.

The Fire beat out the New York Red Bulls, who ran their winning streak to four with wins over Houston and Philadelphia; and RSL, who tied the Fire and earned a road win over Western Conference foe Seattle, for the weekly honors.

What did you think of the Fire's week? Which team did you think had the best Week 10 in MLS?

  1. RSL probably had the more impressive results overall this week, but it’s reasonable to give Chicago the nod. RSL and SKC are still top of the table teams, and should be expected to take points from mid-table teams like Chicago if they are really all they’re cracked up to be. Chicago didn’t roll over and play dead, which is apparently what everyone expected.

  2. Works for me. Everyone gets a turn. Although DC united looked pretty good again. RSL fan here but we still aren’t playing at 90%.

  3. I don’t know how Chicago is the team of the week and not RSL. RSL drew with Chicago in Chicago and then stayed on the road and beat a team in Seattle that had won 5 matches in a row. That is much more impressive than Chicago getting the draw at home against RSL and then beating a slumping KC again at home.
