  1. Wherever did you get the grandiose dellusionary thought that player’s of Donovan or Beckham would ever be content for a long period of time in the MLS.
It was pretty obvious that Donovan wasn’t content for the last several years after his multiple foray’s to Europe. Same with Beckham. Both are on a sunny vacation that they have over-stayed. The majority of MLS D.P.’s underperform to some degree or at some piont. They are an awful investment and the Galaxy and you got suckered. Bruce should have been smart enough to see it coming with Donovan and sell him while they could get a buck. Now that they have re-signed him, at his age and contract value, no one from Europe will pay the MLS fee. He is like an “under-water” house not worth its debt. You will see deminishing returns until contract’s end while kicking it into gear annually when the playoffs begin. Keep bitching….maybe he can hear you on the East coast right now.

  2. A thought provoking analysis and I tend to agree with you especially on the Cameron’s recovery. I would have required Dr. Phil to get me to stop crying. That said…were there that many real tests before and afterward?

  3. Aside from the OG, Cameron was pretty good. As said above, he wasn’t tested much, with Edu bossing the area in front of the 18.

The most impressive part of Cameron’s night was recovering from the OG and not letting it get to his head for the next 75 minutes.

  4. The fault is partially on Cameron but mostly on Howard.

In reality, Miller got lucky… he got separation and should have put the ball into the net. Instead, he tried to cross it to his teammate making a run and hit Cameron.

While Cameron should have been marking him tighter, Howard failed to come out for the lofted ball AND watched the weak rebound off Cameron roll slowly into the net.

I’m impressed with Geoff, however, for not letting the OG faze him and putting in a solid remainder of the game.

  5. Two responses and neither one has a clue. Perhaps if you were Bruce Arena, or a Galaxy fan who shelled out a considerable sum of money to watch Donovan play on a regular basis you might understand.

  6. Perfect game all around 1-11 impressed especially jones and bradley. They are way more than d-mids.

Poor cameron tho, this year he has played to good games but all anyone will remember is an own goal and a red card

  7. Honestly, I think the normally defensively disciplined Scottish team and manager came in not respecting the US team… trotting out an uncharacteristic, supposed 4-3-3, thinking they were going to have a field day attacking…. it was rapidly apparent that was not going to be the case as they got absolutely over-run. They looked stretched out, slow, confused and shell-shocked. Lesson- don’t believe 90% of what you read in the British press.

THAT was fun. The score could have been worse with a few off the posts and the final 20 of merciful running down the clock.

Going to need to play a different game vs Brazil, high sustained concentration… get through the first 20-30 minutes and get them taking some undisciplined chances and that counter could do some damage.

( Anyone else notice what a freaking unwavering, pest Torres was defensively? Lost amongst the flurry, I thought he had a top-notch all around match. )

  8. Jerseys looked good in action. Wish the numbers overlaid the stripes instead of having their own box. Socks might be better in red, too.

How did Cameron look the rest of the match? I only got to see the highlights. His season for Houston has been OK, not great. I want to do really well, but he seems to have taken a step back from last season.

  9. The one-touch passing was excellent, the number of times the usmnt passed quick one time into attractive scoring positions was impressive all night. If this is the way JK wants them to play, we could be in for a nice few years ahead.

Also, when is the last time the usmnt beat a non-concacaf team by 4 goals?

  10. The organization in the attack is something we haven’t seen from the USMNT in years. Bob Bradley’s counter-attack style was effective, but nothing like they played last night. Scotland won’t wow you with their defense, but they didn’t come close to stopping us all night. Great stuff from those Yanks!

  11. Dear “I only play because of nepotism” haters:

Suck it. Do you think even Chicharito can smoke a ball like that?

  12. If you are saying that Donovan is unmotivated when playing with the Galaxy — maybe so, but I will asert that the quality of players around him on the Nat’s is FAR higher. Much better technical ability in the midfield today. Torres, Jones, Bradley.
And with Donovan’s past performance, I think his recent club performance could be overlooked — if an exceptance would be made — it would be for him. Few others if any.

  13. Clearly, Landon Donovan, all-time leader in caps and goals, did not earn his spot on the national team, and did not deserve to play last night, scoring a hat trick.

  14. Tallahassee to Jacksonville is about a 3 hour trip. Would have to be trying to get some University of North Florida girls or something.

  15. I think we still would have won, but what would have happened if Scotland had challenged our possession outside of their 30? They played like signed up for a free trip to shag some Florida State girls and get free beer rather than a proper friendly.

  16. Landon Donovan’s performance was like a giant middle finger to the Galaxy. Not to mention Arena, MLS, and the Galaxy’s fans.

Remember when you had to earn your spot on the national team by playing well for your club team, and not by past performances and reputation? In one game with the US National team Donovan surpassed his total scoring output for a third of a season in MLS.

  17. Unfortunately I did not get to see the game but the highlights really impressed me. Not so much that goals were scored but how they were scored. Quick passing, some impressive individual play as well as team play. It will be great to see if this can be done against a team like Brasil. If so, I think the MNT might finally be pointed in the right direction longer term.

  18. Outstanding performance by the team and the midfield in particular. And great game plan by JK. I’ll nitpick and say that I wish LD had been subbed out around the 70th min considering our next opponent. But a lot for fans to be pleased with tonight
