Euro 2012: Match Day 11 (Group C)

Euro2012

Three teams vie for two quarterfinal places in Group C as defending champion Spain and second-place Croatia lead today's Euro action.

The Croatians will be looking for at least a point againt the Spanish to secure their place in the secound round, with a tie of 2-2 or greater eliminating Italy no matter what 'The Azzurri' do against Ireland.

The Italians still have to take care of business against winless Ireland, with a victory putting them through to the quarterfinals is Spain beats Croatia as expected (or if Spain and Croatia tie 0-0 or 1-1). Ireland has already been eliminated from reaching the quarterfinals, but can end the tournament with some pride restored with a win against Italy.

Here is today's Euro TV schedule:

  1. Ahh found the explanation here:

“- Croatia will definitely qualify, as group winners, with victory. They will also be through with any draw other than 0-0 or 1-1. If their game is 0-0 and Italy win, Croatia are out. In the case of a 1-1 draw, they will only be through if Italy do not beat Ireland by 3-1 or better. If it is 1-1 and Italy win exactly 3-1, the Azzurri will be second on coefficient. Croatia can afford to lose if Italy do not win.”

  2. Ok so something like the GD/higher goals total within the head-to-head game. Man that seems overly complicated/dumb.

  3. Torres would be my first player subbed out. He has been knocked off the ball and off of his runs way to easily. At the end he stops making runs to avoid contact. Take him out.

  4. Seems like I heard the commentators in one of the earlier games state that in UEFA it comes down to head-to-head versus goal differential.

  5. Why is ESPN stating Italy wins the group with a 1-0 win and Spain Cro tie? Wouldn’t GD come into play since they’ve all tied each other?

  6. Croatia looking good (as good as you can look against Spain and their boring but incredibly effective tiki caca), but still being dominated.

  7. Foul by Ramos in the box on mandzucic? Looked like he just got the ball first before getting the man but it was a bit reckless.
