The strongest group in the European Championships will produce two survivors today in a pair of highly-anticipated matches in Group B.
The surprising Danes will look to knock off Germany today and take first place in the group, which would be a stunning accomplishment for a team most considered the weakest in this group. Germany has looked unstoppable through two matches, but will need to secure a draw to lock up the group and avoid any surprises like Russia endured on Saturday.
In the day's most anticipated match-up, the winless Dutch will try to keep their faint quarterfinal dreams alive against a Portugal side that has new life after beating Denmark in the last round of matches. Cristiano Ronaldo had a shocker against the Danes and will be looking to redeem himself against a Dutch defense that has looked vulnerable in the Euros.
Here is the viewing schedule for today's Euro 2012 matches:
2:45pm - ESPN2/ESPN3.com – Germany vs. Denmark
2:45pm - ESPN/ESPN3.com – Netherlands vs. Portugal

nice try.. im actually a big altidore fan. my comment was refering to the haters that will come up with any excuse as to why jozy scores,,, like weak defense in the dutcvh league.. i was aware they had to win by 2 and that they have a good qulaifying record on D. but this isnt qualifying and they looked like shite
I can understand the ref not seeing it himself due to his position, but I’m puzzled as to why the goal-line AR didn’t call it. I definitely agree that Badstuber is the man most likely to cost them in a future match.
After looking at it, it was clearly a tug of the jersey, but I don’t think the ref saw it…Badstuber’s body probably shielded it. Badstuber is the weak link on the German team, and it showed today. They have class all over the field, and Hummels is a quality player, but Badstuber can get caught out of position quite bit and I could see it costing Germany.
It’s in the 76th minute of Denmark v. Germany.
It looks like the Dutch spent two weeks in the Caribbean with Jozy and AZ. The back 4 were poor and the FB’s were pure rubbish. Sneijder had to play LB for most of the first half.
Didn’t see all of the game, but what play are you talking about? What minute? I want to go bacl and see the replay on ESPN3.
That’s an absurd thing to say.
“the Dutch d is weak”
Holland have to win by two goals so they are throwing defense out the window in favor of attack. Otherwise you’d see that axe murderer, Van Bommel out there.
If you think Holland can’t play defense you need to study them a little more.
Aside from your obvious dislike of Altidore, you probably don’t realize that this Dutch team had the best goal differential in the European qualifiers and surrendered a total of 8 goals in 10 games (i.e., just one goal more than Germany or 2 goals more than Spain).
Indeed, and all tournament long.
And the usmnt got an extremely favorable no-call in the round of 16 to help set up that quarterfinal against germany.
We don’t get it from referees any worse than anybody else.
1966 begs to differ.
That was shameful defending, it had nothing to do with a special moment of attacking skill.
Dutch back 3/4 were AWFUL.
Man going back and seeing that lack of a call on the penalty is kind of upsetting. It’s blatant.
Yes because 3 of the best attacking sides in the world are just so easy to defend against. Get a clue man.
I dare say that if the USMNT EVER received such beneficial historical calls like the Germans that US soccer history would look a bit different, and I’m not going to go over all the BS we have had to endure forever, but one of those calls was vs. Germany in the WC, of course 🙂
“I for one hope so. I like their style of attack.”
Same here. I think they’ll go as Ronaldo goes tho. Might be too reliant on him. We’ll see.
agreed. once again a close game changing call goes for the Germans…uncanny history of such beneficial judgments
then the Germans come back and score shortly afterwards as well
Does nobody in Group B play defense? Man this is some ugly stuff.
The real question here is this a case of Portugal’s offense finally clicking and being as good as they can be? Or is this a case of the Dutch defense and team cohesion being that bad? In other words, will Portugal play this well against more organized teams? I for one hope so. I like their style of attack.
That was a great ball. I think CR forgives him.
Germany extremely lucky to not have Banstuber red carded and to give up a penalty.
Man the Netherlands just continue to find ways to be even worse. This team needs to be blown up, clearly too many egos.
Nani just made up for missing his sitter 2 min ago with a great pass.
Then Ronaldo’s like ‘this is how you score by yourself.
Haha Nani. Hahahahahahahahaa.
agreed. portugal looks the better side.
~Messi~, ~Messi~, ~Marsha~!!
You realize that CR passed another milestone today:
“Cristiano Ronaldo is 7th player to score in 3 Euros” – Ives tweet
*are* not is
Yeah, but what in this game suggests that the Dutch can keep Portugal from scoring another goal too? IMO they (portugal) is much more likely to win this game.
Ooooooooook. Agreed. Aaaaaaand, your point? Mine was C.Ronaldo finally looks like the player in this game we’ve all expected him to look like. Nothing to do with Messi.
(And lol @ the use of “kilometers.” Like you’re trying TOO hard to be contrary)
Have to think that the Dutch have another goal in them knocking out Portugal and putting the Danes through if they hold the draw.
Very fun game to watch between Netherland and Portugal!
Yes good goal, but Messi is still kilometers ahead of him.
Right, this is how it pans out considering head to head as the first tie breaker.
Denmark has the first tiebreaker on Germany if they win by 2, and Portugal has the tiebreaker on Denmark.
Or more accurately 1st tiebreaker is head to head not gd.
Euros are head to head not gd.
Portugal and Denmark are at 0 gd each going into the games today.
Still right now the edge has to go to Portugual. Much better combo passing and incisive runs. It just seems like Portugal want it more.
Ronaldo is FINALLY looking like the player he SHOULD look like. But both defenses are highly suspect and either team could be winning by 3-4 goals. It’s been exciting from an offensive standpoint.
Quick cheat sheet those who are watching today –
Holland and Germany are both through if they both win and Holland wins by 2
Portugal and Denmark are both through if they both win by 2
Otherwise, it’s Germany and:
Portugal if they are even on goal differential with Denmark
Denmark if they are +1 on goal differential with Portugal
No room for ties today, it’s win or go home!!!
cue the that’s why jozy scores goals in the netherlands comments.. the Dutch d is weak
How is no one commenting on how epically entertaining this Portugal/Netherlands game is? I’m having more fun watching this game than any other game in the Euros so far.
