Jack Reyna, the son of former U.S. national team great and current U.S. Soccer youth technical director Claudio Reyna, passed away Thursday after a battle with cancer. He was 13.

Reyna, his wife Danielle and their family issued a statement through U.S. Soccer on Friday:

“It is with a heavy heart that we confirm that Jack Reyna lost his battle with cancer (Thursday). Jack was so courageous during his two-year fight that he's become a hero and inspiration to many. Surrounded by his entire family, Jack passed peacefully at the age of 13.

"In lieu of flowers, all of those wishing to show support for the family can make a donation to the Claudio Reyna Foundation on Jack's behalf. Thanks to all for the outpouring of support, prayers, and well wishes. Rest in Peace Jack Reyna. You were loved by many and your legacy will carry on."

For those who wish to do so, donations can be made to the Making Headway Foundation in Jack's memory. The New York Red Bulls, one of Claudio Reyna's former teams, will wear black armbands to honor Jack's memory during this weekend's match against the Philadelphia Union.

SBI offers our deep and heartfelt condolences to the Reyna family on their tragic loss.
