It isn't easy for a goalkeeper to stand out as the best player in MLS on any given week, but Sean Johnson provided an example of how its done.
The Chicago Fire netminder made five outstanding saves to preserve a shutout and help the Fire post a 1-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City last Friday at Livestrong Sporting Park. His jaw-dropping saves helped stifle a dangerous Sporting attack and helped earn him SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.
Johnson beat out a field that included San Jose's Chris Wondolowski, Toronto FC's Danny Koevermans and Torsten Frings, and Seattle's Eddie Johnson.
What did you think of Johnson's performance against SPorting KC? Who was your pick for MLS Player of the Week this week?

No, he has cookie monster eyes
Appetite for the ball, probably? Dum-de-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum
i thought he should have started during the olympic qualifying tourney but glad he has bounced back from that set back. I hope he can establish himself as Howard’s #2.
Nice that he can have a good week since he isn’t out getting ready for the Olympics….
Sean “Cookie Monster” Johnson
Impressive enough performance that my teenage son now wants to be a goalkeeper
The kudos to Sean John is well-deserved. He’s recovered well from the Olympic setback. While he still needs to work on his distribution and coming out of the net, he’s improved over the course of the season. I know there are Fire fans who would have been happy with Tornaghi taking over the netminding duties earlier in the season, but Johnson’s shot-stopping ability, as he showed against KC, is second to none. And if SJ makes some mistakes, he still has the crazy natural ability to make up for some of the mistakes of our young backline.
get ready for the kc butthurt
