After three straight games without a win, Teal Bunbury decided that it was about time Sporting Kansas City collected three points on Saturday night.

The striker took advantage of some sloppy play in the back by the New England Revolution, stealing the ball and scoring a breakaway goal in the 20th minute of an Eastern Conference showdown. Kansas City then bunkered down and preserved the clean sheet and a valuable 1-0 win, the club's first in four games.

In the Revolution's first game since trading away midfield stalwart Shalrie Joseph, Sporting Kansas City converted one of the few chances that either team managed to create in a sloppy game at Gillette Stadium. Bunbury intercepted a pass from New England's Clyde Simms before dribbling into the penalty area and calmly scoring past goalkeeper Matt Reis.

New England had several opportunities to equalize through newly-signed forward Dimitry Imbongo in the second half, but the Congolese player somehow failed to convert. Kansas City ended up holding on for the win, which gave them momentum heading into the all-important US Open Cup Final on Wednesday.
