The U.S. men's national team meets rival Mexico for the first time in more than a year when the two CONCACAF powers meet at Estadio Azteca later tonight (8 p.m., ESPN2/ESPN3.com/Univision).
The U.S. men have enjoyed some of their finer moments in their history at Mexico's expense, but the recent meetings against El Tri have gone the way of Mexico, whose golden generation has captured a FIFA U-17 World Cup, third place in a U-20 World Cup, a CONCACAF Gold Cup and an Olympic gold medal all since the summer of 2011.
The United States is bringing a somewhat experimental squad to Azteca, with the likes of Clint Dempsey, Carlos Bocanegra, Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley and Steven Cherundolo being left in Europe, meaning it is an opportunity for a number of U.S. players to try and leave their mark at the most difficult place to play in the CONCACAF region.
Regardless, it should be a rivalry game that U.S. fans will be eager to watch, whether it is at an official U.S. Soccer bar or at another local establishment to mark the latest meeting between the two heated rivals.
