It isn't easy for a defender to stand out in a six-goal shootout, but Matt Hedges did just that.
The FC Dallas defender was key to holding off San Jose's attack in the first half of Saturday's match against the Earthquakes, and while he did get beat on the first of Steven Lenhart's two goals, Hedges provided a goal of his own and helped FC Dallas escape San Jose with a point. His performance made him the clear-cut pick for SBI MLS Rookie of the Week.
Hedges helped lead a defense that is missing veterans George John and Ugo Ihemelu, and his latest effort was another in a long run of good games for the University of North Carolina product.
Hedges beat out a field of rookies that included Philadelphia's Ray Gaddis and Chicago's Austin Berry for this week's honor.
What did you think of Hedges' performance? Which rookie impressed you the most last week?

Ironically Hedges and Ray Gaddis played for the same local club team the Indy Burn during their high school years
I could see this kid getting a call up one of these days
Was his goal the one that went off Blas Perez’s arm into the net?
