Sounders vs. Timbers: Match Night Commentary

The Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers renew what is arguably the best rivalry in Major League Soccer tonight when the Sounders play host to the Timbers at CenturyLink Field (9pm, ESPN).

The Sounders are in the thick of the race for a top three spot in the Western Conference playoffs, while the Timbers are still playing for the Cascadia Cup, and a win tonight could give the Timbers the trophy.

Portland's record isn't a good one, but the Timbers have enjoyed an improved run of form and should give the Sounders a stiff test.

Tonight should offer a good showcase for Sounders forwards Fredy Montero and Eddie Johnson, with Johnson on the verge of a return to the U.S. national team.

SBI will be providing live commentary on tonight's match so please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

  1. EJ has improved, it can be seen. His holdup play is much better along with other things. Will it translate to the Nats? I hope so

  2. If that was Van Persie bouncing the ball off his shinguard then everyone would be praising him as a wonderful striker. It was a good goal, he watched the ball all the way in and put it where he wanted to.

  3. Not a hater. But your gonna go with a lucky bounce of the shinguard as evidence of his quality?

I imagine he has dome something better.
