Arsenal came into the season with aspirations of being a top four team in the English Premier League again, but a struggling start in league play has them on the outside looking in heading into today’s showdown against London rival Fulham.
The Cottagers have been a pleasant surprise, and find themselves even on points with Arsenal heading into today’s visit to the Emirates. Martin Jol’s side has enjoyed success despite having sold Clint Dempsey and Moussa Dembele this summer. A win today at Arsenal could just push them to the brink of the top four.
Brad Guzan is coming off having earned Aston Villa Player of the Month honors in October and will face a tough challenge from first-place Manchester United at Villa Park. The Villans need a win to keep themselves out of the relegation zone, but stopping United’s high-powered offense won’t be easy.

Gooch directly at fault for Xavi Prieto’s go ahead goal.
Damn.
First minute in and Real Sociedad open the score with the Mexican Carlos Vela, who slots it home while Gooch is caught out of position.
Gooch making his La Liga debut
Wow altidore.
Wow as in Jozy just bagged a Goalzy? Care to elaborate 🙂
sorry for the delay, yes an amazing solo show of skill you gotta see it to appreciate it
Ah balls. I keep telling myself that Hernandez isn’t that good and it’s just his luck and service, but he is going to be a huge thorn in our side the next 10 years. If he is finding time to play and score with England’s top two strikers and RVP on the team then we are not giving him enough credit.
He’s pretty much Herculez Gomez but doing it for Man U instead of a handful of mid-league Mexican teams.
Hernandez is certainly that good.
Unfortunately for us, he will around for a while.
He may not be the most technical player but he sure finds a way to score goals. It reminds me of the US – Mexico game a few months ago at Azteca where he missed three clear scoring chances and I thought to myself, if Hernandez is off tonight, we take this game and Shea made it happen.
Even during last year’s Gold Cup final, his movement and intelligence paved the way for Barrera and Guardado to slide inside and wreak havoc, especially Barrera who grabbed a brace.
If I’m not mistaken, Hernandez was the Gold Cup final MVP even though he didn’t score…..or maybe that was dos Santos.
I see a lot of Hernandez in Boyd, relentless work ethic, subpar technique but superb positioning. Only difference being one plays in Austria and the other one shines in the EPL alongside Rooney and RVP.
need good matchups and tactics for him for sure, get physical with him by everyone for starters imo
SAFerguson makes the move, inserts Hernandez, who goes off unlocking the Villa back line finding space after space for himself wherever needed, and pressuring the entire 45 minutes he was out there. He played a great half.
Brad was fine, but that Villa back line looked like they were playing a man down or two. Once Ireland stopped making a nuisance of himself and playing with swagger as he tired in midfield, the spaces opened up for MU
Hernandez with the header off VP free kick, goal far post, nothing Brad can do there
Benteke played a poor ball back to the middle to set up the free kick, and MU pounced, 3-2
just tuned in. is Lichaj playing?
not in the 18
Yellow card accumulation suspension
Ireland now off, 79th minute, along with Rooney who may have picked up a small knock on the ankle
Will Gooch ever get to start in La Liga with Malaga?
Ireland not as feisty as before, looking tired as Scholes subbed off. Vpersie then rattles the crossbar off Rooney corner.
action packed affair, Villa’s left side under seemingly constant siege
Hernandez again on the far post first timer deflecting in OG style past Guzan, nothing he could do, 2-2
Corner finds Scholes header from the 6 wide, well pressured by 2 Villa defenders, SAFerguson up and barking
Hernandez kept onsides by left back, makes nice play to beat Guzan low far post. CB weak there for Villa too
Goal Villa in first half injury time 1-0, De Gea beaten with a first time ripper from Weimann right over his head. Benteke beat Valencia I think it was on the left wing with speed, then touch, then toughness and found Weimann with the pass from the touch line to around the spot
second half should be something
it was Smalling, not Valencia
watching the replay looked like it was Weimann who began the counter just outside the Villa area with a nice ball to Benteke which gave him the chance to make his plays on the wing
Ives,
Lately when I come on the site with my Iphone I get excited, because I’ve won some sort of prize. I’m excited to win, but I can’t view the site.
Good times.
Ireland v Scholes a feisty battle in midfield right now, playing hard and expending lots of energy
Lichaj not on the team sheet today? Injured or out of favor?
don’t know but it’s not like he’s been playing with confidence unfortunately
I thought he was suspended for yellow card accumulation or was that already served?
I am not sure, but I think it is card accumulation.
next 5 Villa fights back well. if they score first this game could be a cracker. back and forth so far, action
5 minutes in and its a shooting gallery in the Villa defensive area
Arteta was so bad today it was unreal, goodness.
Howard has been crap for Everton this season. whats going on? Is it complacency? Guzan challengibg him should be great for him
looking forward to Guzan’s AV taking on MU. He’s going to be under fire all game you got to think…what a challenge! Go Brad!!!
Ball don’t lie.
Ha! Karma! Hell yeah!
Arsenal given a penalty, wrongly in my decision, and Arteta has it saved.
Ball don’t lie, as Rasheed Wallace would say.
Terrible call. Terrible f*cking call. What the hell was the Fulham fullback supposed to do???!
Moyes makes the switch taking Neville off and pushing forward…5 minute later everton has scored 2 goals and lead 2-1 80th minute
would love to see Moyes coach the Nats someday. Did you see the guy’s face after Jelavic’s goal…Intense. His players lay out for him, great spirit on his team year after year. He’s awsome.
And then of course they concede a third lmao
Fulham look really good this season. I’m so happy. Too bad Deuce is gone but c’est la vie
Coyw!
Is Cameron playing at LB for Stoke?
yes
check that, I’m watching the FoxSoccer2Go replay and the lineup graphic had him at LB but he started the game at RB with Wilkinson on the left. I assume it stayed that way all game.
Klinsy at the Everton Sunderland match, checkin in on Howard? Not sure if there are any other people of interest to him .
