Wednesday’s soccer on broadcast TV got off to a pretty entertaining start with the U.S.-Russia 2-2 draw on ESPN2. But that’s just the opener on a Wednesday full of international friendlies on various networks throughout the day.
In Europe, the Czech Republic is facing Slovakia in a battle of bordering nations. The Netherlands vs. Germany and Sweden vs. England are two other European friendlies coming up later in the day.
There’s a history of huge matches between Sweden and England that has stoked what is a pretty solid and evenly-matched rivalry. The two sides met a year ago in London with England taking a 1-0 victory and played a wild, offense-dominated group stage match in Euro 2012 this past June which England won 3-2. Today’s match is in Stockholm.
Some interesting Western Hemisphere matches take place this evening, including Venezuela-Nigeria and Panama-Spain.
Here is a rundown of some matches on TV being shown on Wednesday:
2 p.m. – GolTV – Saudia Arabia vs. Argentina
2:30 p.m. – ESPN2/ESPN3/ESPN Deportes – The Netherlands vs. Germany
2:30 p.m. – GolTV – Sweden vs. England
