It may have been an unofficial friendly, but Nigeria started 2013 with a 1-1 draw against Catalonia thanks to a goal from Portland Timbers forward Bright Dike.
Dike netted the equalizer against a Catalonia side that included Barcelona players Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique, Xavi and Sergio Busquets on Wednesday, racing to a pass played in behind the defense before executing a nifty cutback and firing it in off the near post in the second half of the match.
The counter-attacking goal helped Dike’s case for inclusion in Nigeria’s roster for the 2013 African Cup of Nations and was the latest milestone in a career that has seen him go from USL Pro player to Nigerian international in the last few months.
