Abby Wambach could not have asked for a better way to celebrate her latest milestone.

Playing in her 200th game for the U.S. Women’s National Team, Wambach scored the winner in the Americans’ 3-1 victory over Scotland at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn. on Wednesday night. Wambach netted on a diving header early in the second half, leaving her five goals shy of tying Mia Hamm’s record for most goals all-time.

Wambach’s winner, which came following a cross from Sydney Leroux in the 51st minute, was sandwiched in between strikes from Megan Rapinoe and Christen Press in the 21st and 54th minutes, respectively. Scotland pulled one back late through Suzanne Grant but there was no stopping Tom Sermanni from improving to 2-0 as U.S. head coach, with both wins coming against his native country.

The U.S. will next travel to Portugal to partake in the annual Algarve Cup. The Americans open their campaign in the competition against Iceland on March 6.

What do you think of the USWNT’s 3-1 win over Scotland? How many more games do you think it will take for Wambach to break Hamm’s record? Like what you’ve seen so far from the USWNT under Sermanni?
