As the U.S. Men’s National team travels to Mexico City on Sunday, they’ll be short one starter.
Jermaine Jones, who needed stitches at halftime during Friday’s 1-0 win over Costa Rica, tweeted that he was traveling back to Germany due to the leg injury. (UPDATE: U.S. Soccer has confirmed that Jones suffered a left ankle sprain.) The news means that coach Jurgen Klinsmann will be without one of his most reliable players for the upcoming match against Mexico.

The German-born midfielder has won 28 caps and scored two goals for the United States since joining the national team in October of 2010.
With Jones out, Klinsmann will now be forced to play yet another starting lineup when the team takes the field on Tuesday in Azteca Stadium. The U.S. boss has fielded a different lineup in every single game he has been in charge of.
