Gomez powers Santos Laguna to win over Jaguares

Santos Laguna is off to a winning start in March, and they can thank Herculez Gomez in a big way for that.

Gomez lifted Santos to a 3-1 win over Jaguares de Chiapas on Friday night and he was involved in all three of his club’s goals, scoring twice (his second tally included a well-timed nutmeg) and assisting another in a span of eight minutes in the first half. Gomez, who played 74 minutes in the match, now has three goals in the Clausura campaign.

The U.S. Men’s National Team forward’s Man-of-the-Match-worthy performance ends a scoring drought that dated back to January and comes in the same week that Jozy Altidore also had a two-goal, one-assist performance for AZ Alkmaar in a KNVB Cup semifinals clash with Ajax.

Here are the match highlights:

What do you think of Gomez’s performance? How many times have you watched his second goal? Whose two-goal, one-assist outing was more impressive, Gomez’s or Altidore’s?
