Toronto FC sign Robert Earnshaw

BY DAN KARELL

On the eve of the start of the 2013 Major League Soccer season, Toronto FC have announced that they have signed forward Robert Earnshaw from Championship club Cardiff City. As per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Earnshaw most recently played for Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel, spending five months there on loan, scoring two goals in ten appearances, mostly coming off the bench.

The Welsh international turned professional in 1998 with Cardiff City, and went on to play for other English sides such as Norwich City, West Bromwich Albion, Derby County, and Nottingham Forest.

The 31-year-old also has earned 59 caps for Wales, scoring 16 goals. He will be officially added to the roster upon the completion of the player’s International Transfer Certificate.

Earnshaw becomes the first major signing for Toronto since Ryan Nelsen left Queens Park Rangers to take over as manager full-time on February 1.

What do you think of this signing? Do you see Earnshaw starting right away? Do you believe him and Danny Koevermans can produce a successful partnership?
