Before the 2013 season began, FC Dallas, Montreal and Chivas USA weren’t consider serious threats to be among the best teams in the league, but all three enjoyed outstanding first months of the season to turn the league on its head and make us reconsider everything we thought we know about how this season would go.

The success of all three teams can be attributed to the strong form of a handful of players who were among the best in MLS in March. A total of five players from the three aforementioned teams made the SBI MLS Best XI for the month of March, with six others earning Honorable Mention nods.

For Montreal, the stellar play of Patrice Bernier made him a leading candidate for MLS Player of the Month, while FC Dallas was once again led by former MLS MVP David Ferreira. Chivas USA’s success was always going to be built around the strong goalkeeping of Dan Kennedy, and in March he was key to the team’s surprising run of form.

Here is a rundown of the SBI MLS Best XI for the month of March:

  1. Oh and also, no Yedlin on honorable mention? I know Seattle has been garbage but the kid has been their best player imo.

    • I really wanted to have two goalkeepers on first team, and had a hard time choosing between the two, but gave Kennedy the edge. Hamid probably has it locked up before the Crew game.

  2. That DC has two clean sheets and hasn’t let in twenty goals is a testament to Bill Hamid.

Dan Kennedy is excellent, but he isn’t superman.
