A trio of Sunday matches headline Major League Soccer action today, led by tonight’s Western Conference showdown between the Portland Timbers and San Jose Earthquakes.

The Timbers are coming off their first win of the season and will take on a San Jose side that is starting to get healthier after enduring a rash of early-season injuries that kept the Earthquakes very shorthanded to start the year. The meeting is the first of consecutive matches between the teams.

The Montreal Impact and Columbus Crew face off in the day’s first match (Noon, MLS Direct Kick) in a match that was postponed on Saturday due to snow storms in the Montreal area. The Impact are looking to start a new winning streak after suffering their first loss of the season in their last match. The Crew come in off a somewhat disappointing home draw vs. Philadelphia.

The Houston Dynamo take on the Chicago Fire at BBVA Compass Stadium in a match-up of teams coming off of very different results. The Dynamo endured an ugly 2-0 loss to Portland last week, while the Fire posted an impressive 3-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls. The Dynamo are at home though, and will be looking to set a new league record for most matches without a loss in all competitions.
