In a week with few goals, MLS Week 21 saw a pair of rookies enjoy standout performances to make somewhat surprising appearances on the SBI MLS Best XI.
Just days after being named to the MLS All-Star Team, Seattle rookie DeAndre Yedlin made his first MLS goal an impressive equalizer, netting in the Sounders’ 1-1 draw vs. the Colorado Rapids. Los Angeles Galaxy rookie Gyasi Zardes gave a glimpse of his greatness on Saturday, as he scored a winner to help the Galaxy halt red-hot Vancouver, and do so without injured Robbie Keane and Gold Cup-participant Landon Donovan.
Yedlin’s goal didn’t stop the Rapids from having a pretty good week accumulating four points from two matches, and the tandem of Drew Moor and Nathan Sturgis was key to Colorado’s sucess last week.
